INTER-COLLEGIATE SUSTAINABLE HIKE 2021

Join us for our first-ever inter-collegiate sustainable hike to the Peak. This is a joint school hike with Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, UPenn, Princeton, Stanford, Yale where we will go from HKU to the Peak through Mt. High West. Along the way, there will be recommended optional activities to make it a little bit more fun and to raise sustainability awareness. This is a morning hike that is under 6km but with elevation gain of ~450m so it will take 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. The first hour will be mostly paved stairs so strollers are not recommended for this hike. Friends and family are welcome.

The meeting time is 9am on Sunday Oct 17th at HKU MTR Exit C1. Target finish at the Peak is around 11:30am. For those who would like to stay for lunch, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from at the Peak.

For this hike, we highly discourage the use of bottled water/drinks and we will follow the leave no trace policy (https://greenearth.org.hk/naturetrails/en/leave-no-trace/) such as leaving what you find, taking your litter home, respecting wildlife, etc. We also encourage everyone to help in cleaning up the trail along the way.

It is recommended that you bring at least 1L of water / energy drink in reusable bottles, wear sneakers and outdoor alma-mater attire to be comfortable. We will be monitoring the weather conditions and inform all registered attendees to confirm the hike or cancel/postpone due to weather circumstances.

For any questions, please email Kelly Chan at kchan@alum.mit.edu or Calvin Chung at calchung@alum.mit.edu

Date & Time: October 17, 2021, Sunday 9:00am–11:30am

So, please mark your calendar and come and join other alumni and current students in this summer gathering.  Discuss the new staggered three semester format for 2020 and the relative merits for Brown to field varsity sport teams in fencing, skiing, golf, squash and equestrian etc... while enjoying some friendly bowling competition between the classes.
