About Dr. Grace Calhoun '92, P'26, P'26: M. Grace Calhoun '92, Ph.D. began her tenure at Brown University as the Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff ‘78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation on April 19, 2021, following ten years of transformative success as the director of athletics and recreation at the University of Pennsylvania and director of athletics at Loyola Chicago. The transition to Brown was a homecoming for Calhoun, having graduated magna cum laude from Brown in 1992 while competing as a varsity athlete on the track and field team.

Reporting directly to President Christina H. Paxson and serving as a member of the president’s cabinet, Calhoun’s first season on College Hill was a historic one as the Division of Athletics and Recreation unveiled a new brand identity, signaling a new era at Brown. Volleyball, women's soccer, and men's lacrosse all won regular-season Ivy League Championships, with women’s soccer and men’s lacrosse hosting NCAA First Round contests at home. Brown finished the year 95th in the Learfield Directors Cup Standings, its highest finish since 2015-16, while improving the sense of the student-athlete community and the quality of experience for all student-athletes. BROWN CLUB THEATER EVENING: "DIAL M FOR MURDER" AT THE WESTPORT COUNTRY PLAYHOUSE

Join the Brown Club for a performance of "Dial M for Murder" on Tuesday, July 25 at 7pm, with a Private Reception following the performance.

A devious husband, his wealthy wife, and her lover. This edge-of-your-seat, classic thriller has been brilliantly adapted by playwright Jeffrey Hatcher, who has created even more surprises and diabolic twists than the celebrated Hitchcock film!

The Westport Playhouse production of "Dial M for Murder" stars Brown Trustee Kate Burton ’79, P’11 who received an honorary Brown doctorate in 2007. Brown alums will attend the play and then gather for a post-show reception in the upstairs Playhouse assembly room for drinks and snacks.

On Kate Burton: "Persuasive Kate Burton changes the texture of the show when she takes the second act spotlight as the single-minded Inspector Hubbard” (Talkin’ Broadway). “Burton rounds out this already excellent cast with her razor-sharp, take no prisoners performance as the capable and no-nonsense Inspector Hubbard” (Broadway World).

Please purchase tickets through the Brown Club using the button below, rather than calling the Playhouse Box Office. You can pick up your purchased tickets at the Box Office on the evening of the performance.

For questions, email Darcy A. Travlos ’84, P’20.

Date: Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - 7:00 pm Performance followed by Private Reception

Price: $49 per Ticket, Mezzanine Seats (the best visibility, according to the Playhouse), Admission to Private Reception is Included

We have arranged a private group tour of The Glass House in New Canaan, which will last two hours and include The Glass House, the Painting Gallery, the Sculpture Gallery, and Da Monsta, with a three-quarter mile walk over grass and paths with outdoor sculptures. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit the midcentury modern masterpiece that so many of us studied at Brown.

The pastoral 49-acre landscape comprises fourteen structures and features a permanent collection of 20th-century paintings and sculptures, along with temporary exhibitions. As a historic site, The Glass House serves as a catalyst for the preservation and interpretation of modern architecture, landscape, and art, and as a canvas for inspiration and experimentation.

The site is ADA accessible and tours are run rain or shine. In the event of rain, please bring umbrellas and rain coats. Large bags and backpacks need to be checked at the Visitor Center. Please note we will split into two groups of 13 people departing from the Glass House Visitor Center 20 minutes apart, with a separate tour guide leading each group. Photography is allowed. Enhance your experience at The Glass House with their Digital Guide on Bloomberg Connects.

Date & Time: Saturday, November 11, 2023 - First group of 13 leaves at 11:15am, second group of 13 leaves at 11:35am. Tours last 2 hours.  Please check in at the Visitor Center (199 Elm Street) 20 minutes in advance of departure time.

Location: All tours originate from the Visitor Center at 199 Elm Street, New Canaan. Tours are taken to and from the site in a free shuttle from the Visitor Center.

ASK: TAP INTO THE HIDDEN WISDOM OF PEOPLE AROUND YOU FOR UNEXPECTED BREAKTHROUGHS IN LEADERSHIP AND LIFE

Please join us for a conversation with Brown author Jeff Wetzler '96, interviewed by Jenee Henry Wood, at Athena Books, a wonderful gathering place in Old Greenwich owned by Jen Bird '97.  A global expert on adult development and learning, Jeff will speak about his new book Ask: Tap into the Hidden Wisdom of People Around You for Unexpected Breakthroughs in Leadership and Life.

Too often, we never tap into the goldmine of insights, perspectives, and ideas that people right around us possess but don’t reveal. That’s because we don’t know how to ask the right questions in the right ways. In Ask, Jeff offers a research-backed, surprisingly effective method to find out what others really think, feel, and know. It leads to smarter decisions, more creative solutions, and deeper relationships. Ask is based on a simple premise: that tapping into what other people truly think, know, and feel is a game-changing superpower.

Questions? Please call (203) 990-0295.
