My co-author, Judy Gelman, and I worked together on The Book Club Cook Book (Tarcher/Penguin, 2004) as well. News from Christa Champion
I am currently in the middle of a one- year stay at Oberlin College - a kind of "transition" back into full-time coaching after my two-year hiatus in San Francisco!Living in the Bay Area while "on vacation" was great fun - I didn't finish the novel I was working on, but I got to play a lot of tennis, see some Giants games, and eat at a lot of great restaurants.
Ohio is a bit different from northern California: very flat, lots of snow, and no traffic. I'm liking the small-town life, and so is our dog, who likes to chase squirrels on the town square. Even Nancy, who lived in San Francisco for 12 years before our move, has found that she likes ithere. Who knows? we might even be convinced to stay on longer than this interim year. Otherwise, I'll be looking for collegiate coaching openings back in New England come spring.
I can be reached at champs@alumni.brown.edu.

From Anne Fisher
Some of you may remember that just before reunion I decided that with my younger child about to start preschool (and no more kids planned for the future), it was time to get back into shape. After about a two-year hiatus from exercise I set my sights on the Chicago marathon and began training. On October 7th, I ran my first marathon (I ran my first half-marathon in San Francisco in July), completing it in 3 hours 42 minutes and 8 seconds (averaging just under 8 1/2 minutes per mile), and qualifying for Boston.
In Chicago I stayed with Bettina Slusar (and her husband Dan Goldman) an experienced marathoner who was the perfect host-- they even cooked me home-made pasta the night before the big event.
I intend to run Boston on April 15th, and would love to know of old friends in the area since my husband Gary won't be able to come cheer me on for this one.
Other news... We've been renovating our home in the Marina district of San Francisco since February 2001, but hope to move back in before a full year has passed (though nothing will surprise me now that both the initial budget and expected time frame are likely to have tripled by the time we're back in). So once again (after spending so many months crammed into in a 2 BR, 1 BA apartment with NO PARKING SPACES), we'll have a guest room to offer visiting friends.
I see Christy McGill (recently returned to SF from the Big Apple) and Jan D'Alessandro Wadsworth ('85) regularly as I am part of their book club. Robert Kovacik, in town in his new role as a correspondent for the National Geographic channel, cocktailed and dined with my husband and me at several local hotspots.
Our home phone number is 415-346-1613, and if you lose it, we're listed (the only Vollen) in the San Francisco phone book. My current email address is focusSF@aol.com.
From Claudia Morgan
After nearly five years of riding out the Internet boom, I have returned to graduate studies. I am now writing my dissertation for my Ph.D. in Social Policy from the Heller School in Policy and Management at Brandeis, and am also simultaneously completing an M.A. in Women's Studies. I am researching the social welfare implications of federal microenterprise initiatives for women. I am also volunteering with the Greater Boston Business Council to help them set up a community foundation.
I've won a second competitive doctoral fellowship and just had a paper accepted for presentation at the 2002 Kauffman Entrepreneurship Research Conference in Boulder, CO.
I am looking forward to graduation from Brandeis in 2002, and to opportunities in research, teaching, and performance evaluation on community development initiatives.
I remain in close touch with Fred Young '86 and Andrea Blair '89. I periodically encounter Sandy Zervos '84 at the gym. I would love to hear from Johnifaz '87 (congratulations on that MacArthur, my man!), Kris Fain '85, Ted Harris '86 (praying that you have recovered from the Claudeful Earthy Hippie Factor), Jen Hok '8(n), Sarah Stimson '88.5, Becky Stebbins '85, Eva Manolis '85, Beej Brostrup-Jensen '86, Brian Delaney '87, Yeva Johnson '86/MD '89, Tecumseh Fitch '85, any other BACH alums who tolerated my Force of Nature between '85 and '87.
Cooperation lives, my loved ones. Need a place to crash when coming to Boston? Please email me at morganite@mediaone .net.

News from Dan La Rochelle
I've been married for nine years come June. Karen and I have two boys (Scott, 5, and Jack, 2) and are expecting our third child this July (2002). We've been living in Robbinsville, NJ (nestled between Princeton and Trenton) for the past three years and hope to continue here for twenty more!
I'm currently working with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (Vice President of Portfolio Analysis/ Risk & Performance Group) in Plainsboro, NJ. I've been with MLIM for the past year, and for the first time ever, I am driving to work. I have found it infinitely more gratifying to travel over train tracks than on them.
After Brown, I toiled with Andersen Consulting for a couple of years before heading to Columbia for an MBA (May 1990). Since then, I bounced around a bit before landing in Risk Management, in which I've been working for the past eight years.
All in all, I'm thrilled with the way things have worked out for me since Brown. I hope and pray this is true for my classmates. I'm at djlkjl@optonline.net.
