WAYS YOU CAN HELP YOUR CHILD WITH WRITING AT HOME
•Help your child set up a place at home for writing. It could be a hidden nook that is cozy.
•You are your child’s first and best model. Shopping lists, notes, cards, email, phone messages, etc., are all good examples of home literacy. Include your child in these types of writing.
•Encourage your child to bring his/her Writer’s Notebook on family outings (visiting relatives, going to a restaurant, watching a baseball game…) to write about his/her experiences.
•Leave “literary gifts” such as newspaper clippings, cards, or things you’ve copied from your own reading for your child to read and tape into his/her Writer’s Notebook.
