Grade 3 Curriculum

This year in third grade we will learn:
 
Reading: We will continue to strengthen our comprehension strategies through the Readers' Workshop Model.  Children will be applying strategies taught within our mini-lessons to literature on their independent reading levels.  
Writing:  We will build writing skills through thematic units which include: narrative, nonfiction, biography, poetry and persuasive writing.  We will also be working on editing and revising skills.
Spelling and Phonics:  We will be using the Open Court Phonics Program to learn phonics and spelling rules.
Math:  We will build math skills using our new math program, My Math.  Third grade standards are broken into 5 domains: Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Number and Operations of Base Ten, Number and Operations in Fractions, Measurement and Data, and Geometry.   
Social Studies:  Communities/Government, Brookfield, Map Skills
Science:  Rocks and Minerals, Animal Habitats and Adaptations, Force and Motion
