This year in third grade we will learn:
Reading: We will continue to work on reading fluency, comprehension strategies, increasing our sight word vocabulary, and phonics skills through the readers' workshop model.
Word Work: We are using the Open Court program which allows students to use their phonics skills by decoding words, and using these skills in short decodable stories, as well as practice sheets to reinforce skills they are learning/using in class.
Writing: Students will increase the length of their stories. They will include a clear beginning, middle and end, with some supportive details and description. We will also be working on editing and revising short passages.
Math: We will use the My Math program to strengthen math skills and problem solving skills. Parents are encouraged to practice math facts with their children to increase speed of recall.
Social Studies: Communities/Government, Brookfield, Map Skills
Science: Force and Motion, Rocks and Minerals, Habitats and Adaptations
