The purpose of our library is to support the community of Huckleberry Hill Elementary School. Our library is open from 8:45-3:30 each day.
Second grade students attend library class once a week. At that time, the children have story time and check out books. In addition, the students will use computers many times throughout the year in order to increase their knowledge of different applications available to them.
Third and fourth grade students visit the library every two weeks with their special teachers in order to exchange books and have a lesson. In addition, classes are scheduled with the third and fourth grade teachers throughout the school year for instruction. The lessons are planned collaboratively with the teachers and librarian so that the instruction and projects are aligned with our curriculum. We use both print and non print resources including The World Book Encyclopedia and IConn, the state of Connecticut supplied database. Our district uses Google Apps for its application software. It is primarily taught in the library and the keyboarding lab. However, each child should also receive instruction in Google Apps from his/her classroom teacher.
