About Us

Bronco Urban Gardens, 'BUG', is an environmental justice initiative lead by SCU's Environmental Studies Institute.

The goal of BUG and its associated projects is to increase community food security, sustainability and environmental literacy in Santa Clara Country through the co-creation and technical support of urban gardens and education programs.

Other goals include:

  • Provide urban agricultural technical support and educational program assistance to improve food security, health and environmental literacy of underserved schools and marginalized communities in Santa Clara County
  • Ensure the long-term viability of Santa Clara County school and community gardens by providing free teacher trainings, garden education and volunteer support
  • Train a new generation of sustainable agriculture and food system educators
  • Foster urban sustainability by connecting communities producing healthy food to natural food systems
