Due to our recent SPAM problem, the State of Connecticut mail server is rejecting messages from bridgeportedu.net addresses.  This includes all state offices including the State Dept of Education.

 We expect to have this resolved tomorrow (Thursday).  In the meantime, time-value e-mails can be sent using your “bridgeportps.net” account.

Mail to CITY e-mail addresses from “bridgeportedu.net” addresses is being delayed.  We are working on the problem and hope to have it resolved soon.  This includes Lt Grech and Mr. Hammond as their mail is delivered through the city system.  In the meantime, please make sure any urgent or “time-value” information is communicated by phone or other means.

Until the problem is resolved, you can send important mail using your G Suite (bridgeportps.net) account.  These accounts are unaffected by the outage.

One of our “teacher” mail stores will be off-line for approximately one hour for needed maintenance.  During this time, approximately 10% of teacher users will not have mail access. 

Mail sent to the affected users may result in a “delayed e-mail” message to the sender.  Any queued mail will be delivered shortly after the data store is back on line (around 10:00 AM).

We are experiencing problems with one of our Exchange (mail) servers.  As a result, fax and scan services are unavailable and mail to some teachers mail accounts is delayed. 

We are working on resolving the problem.

Please check your INBOX going back to Tuesday for new mail messages that may have arrived in the past half hour.

We have received notification that a small number of incoming messages from outside BOE were returned to sender as “undeliverable/connection refused.  If you have not received an expected e-mail message, you may want to contact the sender and have it re-sent.

We experienced a major problem with one of our mail data stores.   The issue requires the data store be rebuilt and mail transferred.  There has been no loss of mail messages but the repair is time-consuming. 

Mail is being delivered – but with extensive delivery delays.  This appears to be primarily affecting incoming mail from outside BOE.   Until the repair is complete late tomorrow (Friday) or early Saturday morning, mail will be delayed.   Any backlog should clear fairly quickly when the repair is complete.

Earlier today (Tuesday), Amazon Cloud Services – one of the largest web hosting providers in the United States – had major problems in their Eastern center.  The outage began around 12:35 PM and affected over 140,000 websites – including HMH and Clever.  According to Internet reports, most of the affected sites were “up” by 4:00 PM.

If you or your students had login problems after 12:35 PM this afternoon, this was the likely cause.

We are continuing to troubleshoot the problems with files being very slow to open and save at city hall.  We have made a number of changes to our environment that appear to be having a positive effect.  If  you are experiencing major problems with files not opening or saving, please e-mail helpdesk with the details.  Please include in your e-mail:

  1. The exact time the problem occurred.  We use this information to cross reference system logs.
  2. Which program were you using? 
  3. Were others in your office experiencing problems at the same time?
  4. Your telephone number so we can contact you if needed.

Please be sure to power off your computers and restart if problems persist.  Also, please be sure to power off the computer at night.

The IT Department will be replacing two switches at city hall this morning (Tuesday).  This will result in all city hall computers and telephones being off-line for at least 30 minutes as the switches are replaced.  During this time, Munis will be unavailable in all schools.

After the switches are installed, services will be restored to all offices incrementally.  We expect all offices back on-line within an hour or so.

Due a hardware failure, the Parent Center on Boston Avenue has no phone service or Internet.  This outage is expected to last through Wednesday morning and possibly longer as we obtain and configure replacement hardware.

On Thursday, 11/10, fiber optic cables need to be relocated.  As a result, there will be NO INTERNET or TELEPHONE service at Central HS beginning at 3:00 PM.  We expect service to be restored at approximately 4:00 PM.

We have received notice that our hosting company is upgrading PowerSchool today, October 27 at 4:00pm. 

PowerSchool & PowerTeacher will not be available from 4:00 PM to approximately 7:00 PM.

Internet and telephone service has been restored to the affected schools (Aquaculture, Bassick, Batalla, Black Rock and Bryant). 

Users in these schools should POWER OFF and RESTART your COMPUTER before using it.  This will insure connections are restored to your files and folders.

We are experiencing problems with our ADMIN file server.  At this time, ADMIN (non-teacher) users cannot open or save files.

Wed. 9/28/2016 - 5:30 PM

We will be installing a software upgrade for the I.P. telephone system Thursday morning beginning at 6:00 AM.  At some point during the upgrade, each building will lose  telephone service for 5-10 minutes as the software is downloaded and the telephones reset.  Computers connected to telephones will lose their connection for a few minutes as well.

This outage will affect I.P. telephones only (275 & 579 numbers).  It is expected that the upgrade will be completed before 8:00 AM for all 2000+ telephones in the system.

We are having major problems one of the switches and/or fiber optic cable that covers Harding HS.  This is resulting in unreliable network and phone service.  

The areas affected are in the “old building” 1st and 2nd  floors.  Rooms with low numbers from the front of the building to the middle of the rear hall are served by this switch.  The outage includes computer labs in 109 & 210. 

We are working on the problem and hope to have it resolved today.

We have received numerous reports of intermittent GradeBook problems.  The I.T. and Data Management departments are working with PowerSchool to determine the problem and restore full access to Gradebook.  Please do not submit new work orders as it is a known system issue.

There will a short network outage at Harding HS on Monday evening, September 12, at 6:30 PM.  This is due to fiber optic cable testing and service.  The outage is expected to last approximately ½ hour.  During this time there will be no access to Internet or telephone in the building. 



Tues. 9/6/2016 - 10:05 AM

On Friday, an electrical transformer failure at city hall resulted in loss of power to the building and damage to electrical circuits.  At this time, a portion of city hall BOE offices has no telephone or network access.  In addition, our few remaining Novell users may not be able to log in until the problem is resolved. 

We expect power to be restored to the affected equipment sometime today.

We need to perform maintenance in the data center at Sheridan School/Bridgeport Leaning Center on Monday, 8/29, beginning at or around 8:00 AM.  Temporary connections will be provided in the  main office.  The rest of the school will have no computer, network or telephone service until early Monday afternoon.

Due to power outages Waltersville School has limited network and telephone (running on battery power).  Barnum may also be affected later this afternoon.  Blackham is completely “down” at this time. 

It is unknown how long the outages will last.

The outage for re-feeding the pad mounted transformers has been scheduled for Tuesday, 8-9-16  from: 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

In case of inclement weather the rain date will be on Wednesday, 9-10-16 from: 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. 

The building's emergency generator will run to provide emergency lighting.The refeeding of power to the schools is a part of the housing construction next door to the schools.

On Wednesday, July 20, we will performing a MAJOR SOFTWARE UPGRADE to our core switch.  During the upgrade, our entire computer network will be shut down.  This includes all servers, Internet and I. P. telephones throughout the district. 

The switch upgrade will begin at 7:00 AM and should be complete by 9:00 AM.  Once the upgrade is complete, servers and systems will be brought back on line as quickly as possible.  We expect to be fully operational no later than 12:00 PM.

As a result of the transition to a new filtering provider, users are experiencing errors (e.g. “This page is not secure”) when access certain sites using the SSL (HTTPS) protocol.  The problem is intermittent and we are working with our providers to resolve it. 
 
In the meantime, if you receive this type of error:
  1. Try using an alternate browser (Chrome or Internet Explorer).
  2. Delete your Internet history (i.e. clear the cache).
  3. Power off the computer, wait 30 seconds and reboot.
 
Please note that the error message indicated a system problem rather than the site being “blocked”.  If a site is blocked, the browser will display a very prominent full-window “I-BOSS” error message.

Due to a hardware failure, maintenance will be performed on our primary storage units on Thursday (tomorrow) beginning at 6:00 AM.  While we do not expect any interruption in service, there is a possibility that this may occur. 
 
If a service interruption occurs, it will take place between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM and should last less than 20 minutes.

Internet maintenance has been completed.  If have any issues, please REBOOT your computer.
 
We have changed our Internet filtering vendor from “Securly” to “IBoss”.  IBoss is administered through the Connecticut Education Network. 
 
There may be a few rare cases where websites previously unblocked are once again “blocked by IBoss”.  Please e-mail “helpdesk” if this creates a problem.  Be sure to include the reason for the request as only “mission-critical” websites – with no reasonable alternative - will be unblocked.

The APEX issue was due to a problem with an Internet “backbone” provider.  This also affected selected web sites unrelated to APEX. 

We have confirmed the problem was resolved late Thursday evening.

Planned Outage Information:
During the week of April 11-15 (Spring Recess) it is necessary to shut down power to the MDF room located in the area of the old Library at Central High School, in order to move an electrical panel to allow renovation work to continue. 

The contractors have requested that our IT department provide assistance to ensure a proper shutdown and re-start of the servers, etc. in the room. This should take place first thing on Monday, April 11. 

The contractors expect the work to take three days or less. Once the panel has been removed, IT staff have been requested to assist in re-energizing the equipment to ensure a proper start-up. 

Please coordinate with the contractors to ensure that this work is done properly, as ALL TECHNOLOGY SERVICES TO THE BUILDING (network, cameras, phones, etc.) will be affected.

Beardsley School: No network connections - Telephones are operational:  Note that the school came UP after the power outage but failed at around 3:00 PM.

Cross School: Major switch failure – no phones or Internet. 

Columbus School: Novell server and router failure. This affects a few users and the paging system. 

Central HS: Switch/fiber problem affecting part of the school earlier.  Konrad reports affected area in service with reduced bandwidth.

Copier Problems: We have had some reports of copier failures.  These are being referred to Xerox service.
