  • understand the theoretical concepts behind least squares curve fitting
  • know how to use polyfit(x,y,n) to find best fit polynomials to scatter point data
    • explain the dangers of. and give examples of, under-fitting and over-fitting data
    • understand the least squares model of "optimal fit"
  • know how to generate test cases for curve fitting by adding random noise to the optimal solution
