The Brandeis Seirenkai Karate & Jujitsu Academy teaches two traditional Japanese Martial Arts emphasising practical, effective self-defense, fun and safety. Previous martial arts experience is welcome but not necessary. Now in its 26th year at Brandeis, Seirenkai (formerly called Kokondo) is the oldest continuously active martial arts club at Brandeis and is taught by a team of male and female internationally certified black belt instructors, including Master Dan Cohen '91, 5th Degree Black Belt, Sensei Steve Lisauskas, 4th Degree Black Belt and Sensei Ian Platt '96, 3rd degree Black Belt. We emphasize realistic self-defense and always doing one's best--not competition or tournaments. More than 2500 Brandeis students have practiced Seirenkai self-defense techniques since 1987, and many have gone on to teach at other universities around the world.
