About the Club

Club Description

The purpose of the Brandeis American Sign Language (ASL) club is to facilitate student learning of American Sign Language and Deaf culture to club members and Brandeis as a whole. We aim to educate and advocate to the Brandeis community about Deaf culture and the linguistic legitimacy and value American Sign Language offers. As a club, we explore, practice and learn basic ASL skills as well as Deaf culture in club meetings. The club also facilitates ASL classes for students. The club seeks to provide members and the student body an opportunity to discover, apply and investigate American Sign Language in a casual, fun and creative setting. Finally, the ASL club plans campus-wide events to educate the Brandeis community about Deaf culture and American Sign Language in order to fulfill the purpose and goals of the club.
