Binge Eating

What is it?
Binge eating is when a person eats a much larger amount of food in a shorter period of time than he or she normally would. During binge eating, the person also feels a loss of control.

Signs and symptoms:
  • Usually after strict dieting
  • Severe weight gain
  • Eating in secret
  • Inability to stop eating
  • Eating a lot of food very quickly
  • Eating even when you’re full
  • Stocking up on food to eat later in secret
  • Eating normally around others, but gorging when you’re alone
  • Eating continuously throughout the day, with no planned mealtimes

  • Extreme weight gain
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Gallbladder disease
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Certain types of cancer
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Sleep apnea
