Wilson's own Deborah Wikel, who teaches kindergarten, was named a Bartlesville Public School District’s Teacher of the Month by Arvest Bank and Oakley Chevrolet Buick.

In recognition of this honor, Mrs. Wikel was presented a plaque and a $300 check by Annah Fischer, Arvest Bank Marketing Manager, and David Oakley Jr., owner of Oakley Chevrolet Buick. Although the award was made presented in November, Wikel is officially the district’s August Teacher of the Month.

Mrs. Wikel has 11 years of classroom teaching experience. This is her fifth year to teach kindergarten. She has taught at both Bartlesville Public Schools and Prue Public Schools.

“I have always had a love for school,” said Wikel. “Even as a young child, I counted down the days to when school started and could not wait to buy my school supplies. I remember playing school with old teacher editions that my elementary teacher let me friends and I use. As if my love for school wasn’t enough, I had great teachers that made my love for school grow even more!”

Differentiated instruction and meaningful learning experiences are the cornerstone strategies employed in Mrs. Wikel’s classroom. She makes every effort to be knowledgeable of changing curricula and standards that pertain to her grade level and focuses on positive relationships and building a rapport with parents.

As a kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Wikel knows she is a small piece of the bigger picture for her students. “My greatest accomplishment and contribution in education is the investment I make into the lives of the students I teach,” said Wikel. “Even though my students are young, I have the opportunity to help build a foundation that they will continue to build on during their lifetime.”

Wikel has been a grade level coordinator for the district for the past three years, which gives her the opportunity to stay up to date with current trends in education. She also enjoys reading teaching blogs to learn new ideas that could help her students.

Bartlesville Public Schools is proud to join Arvest Bank and Oakley Chevrolet Buick in honoring Deborah Wikel as a Bartlesville Teacher of the Month.
