Jennifer Landers, a kindergarten teacher at Hoover, was named a Bartlesville Public School District’s Teacher of the Month by Arvest Bank and Oakley Chevrolet Buick.

Ms. Landers was presented a plaque and a $300 check by Annah Fischer, Arvest Bank Marketing Manager, and David Oakley Jr., owner of Oakley Chevrolet Buick. Although the award was presented in November, Wikel is officially the district’s September Teacher of the Month, with another kindergarten teacher, Deborah Wikel of Wilson Elementary, having been the honoree for August.

Ms. Landers has 12 years of classroom teaching experience. She taught prekindergarten for ten years and is in her second year of teaching kindergarten.

The person who influenced Ms. Landers’ decision to pursue the path of teaching was her first grade teacher, Ms. Eidson. “I still remember her coffee aroma that she carried with her every day. She made teaching look so fun and easy. She also gave me the confidence I often lacked.”

Ms. Landers feels her students must feel loved, safe, and respected in order to achieve his or her highest potential. Her goal is for her students to never feel afraid to make mistakes but to learn from them. She also strives to accommodate different levels of learning with hands-on teaching and frequent monitoring and assessing.

“I feel that becoming a family in the classroom allows us to work on character and problem solving,” said Landers. “My students are not only in my classroom to learn academics but to also learn skills that will mold them to be exceptional and independent people.”

Ms. Landers shows her love for children and the community through her church as well. She is an active member of Christ Community Church and has volunteered in the kids’ church, in the nursery, and occasionally serves dinners to the homeless families that visit her church.

“I am very honored and proud to be a teacher in Bartlesville, and I care deeply about our kids in the community,” said Landers. “I am proud to have served all 11 years of my teaching career in Bartlesville at Hoover Elementary. I treasure my connections that I have made with students, families, Hoover staff, and the district staff.”

Bartlesville Public Schools is proud to join Arvest Bank and Oakley Chevrolet Buick in honoring Jennifer Landers as a Bartlesville Teacher of the Month.
