Drummond and Williams named Academic All-Staters

Bartlesville High School seniors Margaret Drummond and Liza Williams have been named Academic All-Staters by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. They are among 100 top public high school seniors, selected from 535 nominations statewide, who hail from 83 schools in 75 Oklahoma school districts.

Margaret Drummond is the daughter of Vanessa and Ford Drummond. She is a leader in the Spanish Club, Interact Club, and member of the Honor Society, Fench Club, Environmental Club, and will be paging for Oklahoma Representative Fincher this April. Margaret has long been a varsity and state 6A team runner for cross-country and placed twice in the regionals for the U.S. Chemistry Olympiad and earned several past science fair awards. She plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in International Relations with a minor in Spanish or Economics.

Liza Williams is the daughter of Stevie and John Williams. She was the 2018 Team Captain in Varsity Girls Cross Country and is the President of the Spanish Club, Founder and President of the Environmental Club, and involved in Varsity Track, the National Honor Society, and the Chemistry Olympiad.  She represented Oklahoma in the 2017 National Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition. Liza is doing a senior year internship at ConocoPhillips. In her spare time, she is a waitress at Bartlesville’s Szechuan Chinese Restaurant and a lector at St. James Church. Liza was recently named a National Merit Finalist, is an AP Scholar with Distinction, and was a Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise/Patriot Student of the Month and E-E Athlete of the Week. Liza intends to major in Chemical Engineering with an environmental concentration and might double-major or pursue a minor in Spanish.

The 2019 Academic All-State Class is the 33rd to be selected by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.  Since the award program’s inception in 1987, the foundation has awarded more than $4.7 million in merit-based scholarships and awards.

Each of this year’s All-Staters will receive a $1,000 merit-based scholarship and a medallion. The All-Staters will be recognized at the foundation’s 33rd annual Academic Awards Banquet on Saturday, May 18, at a banquet at the Renaissance Tulsa Convention Center that will later be televised statewide on OETA.
