Caps and Gowns:

  1. Caps should be set straight on the head, elastic in the back.  The tassel should be over the right temple at all times.  After diplomas are received, instructions will be given to move the tassel from the right to the left.

  2. The gown should be fastened at the top.  Caps and gowns should not be worn on the street, but they may be worn to church if your church desires to honor its graduates as a group.

Appropriate clothing:  Graduation is a formal occasion for students, and appropriate dress is required.  Appropriate dress for males is white or light-colored dress shirt and tie, dress slacks, and dress shoes.  Appropriate dress for females is dress slacks or a dress and dress shoes.  If dress shoes have a heel, the heel must be at least the width of a quarter.  Graduates may not wear corsages or carry purses, bags, or cameras.  If you have a question about appropriate dress, seek advice from one of the counselors or an administrator.

INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN - In case of inclement weather, the graduation ceremony will be moved into the Bruin Field House.  Each senior will receive five (5) tickets for seating in the Field House; tickets will be handed to students as they pick up their caps and gowns.  Seating will also be available in the Fine Arts Center auditorium and the Commons and will include a live big-screen showing of the ceremony in each venue; tickets are not required for seating in these venues.

LIVE STREAMING - For those who are unable to attend the 2019 Bartlesville High School Commencement, the ceremonies will be steamed live online.

To the Parents of Graduating Seniors:

 RE:   Graduation Procedures

LaDonna Chancellor, Principal, Bartlesville High School
Congratulations on your son or daughter reaching the milestone of high school graduation.  I commend you for the support and encouragement you have provided your child.  The results of your efforts will be seen Friday, May 24, 2019, when we hold commencement exercises at 8:00 p.m. at Custer Stadium.  Graduating seniors are scheduled to pick up their caps and gowns on Thursday, May 9th

Because of the number of graduates, we ask your cooperation at the commencement ceremony in the following ways:

Please take all pictures of your graduating senior prior to or following the commencement exercise; you will not have access to the field during the ceremony.  Legacy Studios will take pictures of students receiving their diplomas, and those pictures may be purchased through legacystudios.com.  A group picture will be taken prior to graduation, and order information for all pictures will be included in your student’s cap-&-gown packet.  Final details for live streaming graduation are not complete.  When we have the information, it will be posted on our website (bps-ok.org/bhs/home) and on the BHS Facebook Page; we will also send out Remind.  When the graduates leave their seats, they will file out in opposite directions and circle the field on the track.  Your senior will know his or her exact location on the track after rehearsal on Friday morning, and you can plan to meet your senior there after the ceremony.

  • The caps, gowns, and tassels were purchased by your student and are to be kept as souvenirs of the graduation.

  • In case of inclement weather, the graduation ceremony will be moved into the Bruin Field House.  Each senior will receive six (6) tickets for seating in the Field House; tickets will be handed to students as they pick up their caps and gowns.  Seating will also be available in the Fine Arts Center auditorium and the Commons and will include a live big-screen showing of the ceremony in each venue; tickets are not required for seating in these venues.

A schedule of events for senior activities is on the back of this sheet.  Please discuss this information with your son or daughter.  Please remind your graduating senior to be at the appropriate places on time.  It is absolutely necessary that they attend all activities scheduled.  If your son or daughter works, he or she should make all necessary arrangements with the employer to arrange release time for attendance at all graduation functions.  You are invited to attend the Awards Program at 12:30 p.m., May 17, 2019, in the BHS Fine Arts Center auditorium.  Reserved seating for parents will be available in the upper orchestra on the lower level.  All awards are surprises.  Parents will not be notified prior to the program.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the ceremonies.  If you have questions regarding any activities, please feel free to call.

Sincerely,

LaDonna Chancellor, Principal
