"Some say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading!" --William Pearsall Smith

Welcome to Grade 6 Reading at Bow Memorial School! We are going to read wonderful works of fiction and non-fiction literature this year. Do you like to read novels? GREAT! Do you prefer non-fiction? Do you like to read the sports page? We are going to encourage you to read as much as possible this year.

"Reading is a foundation for learning. It is essential to foster an enjoyment for reading and an appreciation for literature. The ability to read includes: learning the symbolic conventions of written language, understanding and appreciating text, applying various reading strategies, analyzing, evaluation, and critiquing written material, and reading widely for a variety of purposes. These elements are fundamental for an individual to fully participate as a contributing member of society." --Bow Reading Curriculum, 1996.
