Welcome Class of 2022

posted Jun 19, 2017, 9:13 AM by Oisin O'Searcoid

Dear Students of MacCallum clan,

Welcome to your Math class for the upcoming year! I hope you all had a great summer and are refreshed and ready to learn!

You should take the time to browse this site, paying particular attention to the Summative Assessments and accompanying Learning Resources. Your success is dependent on your drive to succeed, and your preparedness will help you set the stage for high achievement.

All Formative Practice is computer based. The computer programs that will be made available to you will give you instant feedback on your progress, and allow you to correct your mistakes in real-time. Math becomes more challenging if you persist on practicing your mistakes, so having this instant feedback will help you progress more successfully. There are digital textbook resources also to give you a diversity of material.

Since note-taking and on-the-fly calculations are central to your learning, a spiral-bound notebook and pencils are essential. A dry-erase marker will also be necessary to use one of the classroom-supplied personal whiteboards. All handouts will be made available electronically, so a 3-ring binder will be useful though not required.

Dear Parents of MacCallum clan,

Thank you for taking the time to prepare our students for the upcoming year by ensuring they are equipped with the materials listed above. It may help you to familiarize yourself with the material on this site, as it will help you be a well-prepared resource for them.

Please be aware that success in Mathematics requires not only the varied range of activities we do in class, but also a consistent level of practice. Students are expected to spend 20 minutes each day (including weekends) on their chosen online Math practice resource. It is essential that this is consistent everyday practice. Consolidating this time into one or two days a week fails to provide the consistency required to ensure success. I appreciate your support with this, as it allows for a much more hands-on approach in class where students can learn how to apply the Math they are learning.

I encourage all of you to contact me at any time with questions or concerns you may have.
