    Physical Education at Bonny Eagle

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Bonny Eagle Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year. Hopefully you enjoyed a fun and active summer. Our two gymnasiums and fitness center have gone through major renovations over the summer.  We welcome back our 7th and 8th grade students and hello to our new 6th graders!

There will be many new and exciting activities planned for this school year in Physical Education class. We look forward to working with our students as they progress throughout the trimester and school year.

We would like to outline and review expectations and guidelines for the year. Reminder, you will be in Physical Education class every day for 1 trimester:

Students will be REQUIRED to wear appropriate footwear (sneakers).

Boots, Crocs, Sandals, Heals, HeyDudes etc are not acceptable footwear.

Should your student need assistance with footwear, please contact their teacher for arrangements.

Weather permitting, classes will be held outdoors. Students are encouraged to wear clothing appropriate for all terrain and temperatures.

Students should bring their own personal water bottle to class with their name on it.

Students with any medical conditions (asthma, allergies, injuries) should communicate with their teacher and be prepared for class.

Questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact the PE Department

Sincerely,

Todd Drinkwater. TDrinkwater@bonnyeagle.org

Physical education provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to support participation in a wide variety of physical activities that contribute to an active lifestyle. Physical education provides building blocks for skill development, skill analysis, physical fitness, stress reduction, decision-making, and positive social skills. Students learn to assess and set goals, evaluate their own physical fitness, and use the knowledge to maintain or improve their current fitness level. Students who participate in physical education on a regular basis learn the benefits of physical activity and its contribution to a healthy lifestyle.  (Maine Learning Results 2007).
