Mike welcomed all parents to the Annual General Meeting. There were approx. 23 parents present.
Minutes of the 2008 Annual General Meeting were read by Tara. A copy was provided for all present. Gerald Batycki made a motion to adopt the minutes as read, seconded by Jason Scheirlinck. Carried.
Registration numbers by team were reported by Tara. Mike invited any parents present to consider volunteering to coach.
Lori read the Treasurer’s Report. A copy of the 2008 Profit & Loss statement was provided. It showed a net income of $9,439.30. Much of this increase was due to hosting the Mosquito 2008 Provincials. The current chequing account balance in $20,889.00 (including 2009 registration fees paid to date). It was also noted that there was no increase in player fees for 2009 but that they would increase from $13.75 to $15.00 for 2010. There have been no donations received to date. Wayne Clyne made a mode to adopt the treasurer’s report, seconded by Gerald Batycki. Carried.
The Baseball Rep report was given by Mike. He will attend the League meeting in Wawanesa on Aprl14/09. Boissevain will host a one day tournament for all ages on May 30 with a rain date of May 31. Mike stated that he would let the league know that Boissevain is willing to host a league tournament. Marv reported on some upcoming ball clinics.
The Softball Report was given by Tom. Boissevain is the organizer and host for the Southwest Girls Softball League for the upcoming two seasons. The SWGSL executive committee includes Tom Guenther, Shawn Kleebaum, and Peggy Leforte. More volunteers will be needed as the League Tournament will run over two days and include approx. 40 teams. The SWGSL meeting will be in Boissevain on April 16/09. There will be no annual Boissevain softball tournament this year due to the League tournament and the High School Girls Provicials (June 4, 5, 6). Tom invited volunteers to come forward to coach and reminded all coaches of the need to complete the Respect in Sport course. Tom also reminded coaches to complete their rosters properly, keeping in mind Provincial eligibility. There will be an upcoming Softball Clinic in Boissevain on April 25 & 26 (Tracy Turner). Special note: SWGSL has the greatest participation in softball outside of the city of Winnipeg.
There was no report from Brent Littlejohn, Recreation Director. However, Tara was able to report on the increase in player fees and the support given by the recreation commission for improvements to the ball diamonds.
Upgrades to the diamonds were outlined. These include new shale which will be paid for by Minor Ball. The Rec Commission has agreed to pay for replacing the dug outs on Lions Diamonds 2 & 3, revitalizing the “Pirates” diamond (by the day care) and upgrades to the canteen. A future project will include replacing the back stop on diamond #2. A HUGE thank you was extended to all of the volunteers who helped get the diamonds in shape for Provincials last summer.
Cindy Pugh has agreed to coordinate the canteen again this year. She would like to see the following upgrades to the canteen: new BBQ & tank, plumbed drain from the sink, installation of a hot water tank, an awning for the customer area, rodent control. The Minor Ball Committee supports these recommendations and will approach the Rec Comm for assistance if needed.
Mike announced that Wayne Eisbrenner will act as Umpire-in-Chief this year. There was very good feedback from last year for continuing this position.
Equipment Rep volunteers are as follows: Baseball: Donnie Vandoorne & Jason Scheirlinck, Softball: Harvey Creek & Corey Billaney. A question from the floor came regarding equipment requests. Requests for equipment must be made by contacting a member of the executive or an equipment rep.
Coaches were reminded to book diamonds for practices and games through the Rec Office. Coaches were encouraged to consider a variety of times for practices so all teams could be accommodated.
The following website were noted for parents/coaches:
All parents entered their name for a free registration. This was won by Ken Pringle.
The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
