Our Boise State University University Learning Outcomes are the goals we have for all undergraduate students, regardless of their major. These outcomes capture the skills and knowledge that are essential for 21st century success and provide a foundation for lifelong learning. At the same time, these outcomes are broad and may not provide the kind of specific foci in a particular course. Therefore, the process of "mapping" from ULO to Class Learning Outcomes is helpful.
Three Levels of Learning Outcomes
There are many levels of learning outcomes. In our assessment plan we are mainly looking at the way course learning outcomes help us meet University learning outcomes. Individual instructors, however, need to attend to the way that assignment learning outcomes build toward course learning outcomes as well.
