7th Grade New Viking Orientation Page

This page will outline some basic information about North Junior High. Please keep in mind that you and your child does not have to know all this stuff right away. Your child's elementary counselor will be conducting lessons and can answer questions regarding the transition to junior high. Our counselors will visit elementary schools at the end of January to provide additional information and register students for their classes.

We will host an open house in January where parents and students can come in and learn more about North. We understand that transitions can feel overwhelming, but rest assured that we're here to support your family every step of the way. Your child will do great!

ATTENDANCE

Students must have a Permit to Leave in order to leave the school grounds during the school day. This includes needing a PTL for medical and other appointments. A Permit to Leave is issued in the main office – with receipt of a note from parents/guardians. Parents/guardians may call the attendance office to obtain a Permit to Leave rather than send a note (854-5740). No emails will be accepted.

ABSENCES

HOW TO REPORT AN ABSENCE: North parents may telephone the Attendance Line at 854-5746 at any time (24 hours a day, seven days a week) and leave a voicemail to report student absences.

The mission of the NJHS Counseling Department is to help support students to become healthy, motivated individuals who are capable of reaching their full potential. We do this by addressing the needs of the whole child -- emotional, mental, and physical. We encourage students to find balance in their lives and we teach them to celebrate and value their unique strengths and talents. Our hope is that all of our students will be resilient, capable, and meaningful contributors to the world.

We do our best to match your schedule base on your course requests. Changing classes after school starts may not be an option due to many of our classes being full.

School Nurse

Nurse Johnny <johnny.luangaphay@boiseschools.org> is available five days a week. The Nurse offers health counseling for students, families, and teachers for health related problems. Emergency care for the sick and injured is administered. The Nurse may make referrals to health agencies or health care delivery systems when appropriate.

A copy of your child’s physical and release form must be on file through the Aktivate Program in order for your child to particpate.

Immunization and Physicals

Bring in an updated copy of immunizations and the physical form to Orientation in August.

Getting to School

The safest way for your child to get to school is on the bus
If you live nearby, the safest way for your child to get to school is to walk or ride a bike
Students must be eligible and registered for a bus in order to ride the bus. You can register for a bus by checking the transportation request box in the enrollment paperwork

Students must live more than 1.5 miles from the school to qualify for bus transportation

What you can do to help:

Carpool, ride the bus, walk or bike to school
Do not drive through campus to pick up or drop off students
Consider dropping off or picking up students on nearby streets to reduce traffic congestion
Encourage your child to wear reflective clothing, stickers, headlamps, and helmets
Use crosswalks and be alert!

Cafeteria

Breakfast is served before school and at break.
7th and 8th grade students will eat lunch together after 4th period. There's usually increased variety and options compare to elementary schools.
You are welcome to go to the cafeteria and bring your own packed lunch.
Easiest way to pay for lunch is through My SchoolBucks, please set this up right before school starts.

Lockers

How do I get a locker?

Lockers are automatically assigned to each student. Students MAY NOT share lockers unless approved through the Main Office.

What if I can't open my locker?

Don't worry we have staff readily available to help open lockers at the beginning of the semester. Also Admissions Day is a great time for students to practice.

Do you need to have a locker?

Yes, you will keep your books, personal items, packed lunches and any classroom materials in your locker. Students are not allowed to carry a backpack from class to class.

Infinite Campus is our student portal and you can go there to access your schedule and grades.

Use the following as your login to Infinite Campus.

Infinite Campus Login: school email includes your 2-digit gradyear.firstname.lastname@boiseschools.net
For example: a 7th grade student's email, with name: Molly Jones: would be 32molly.jones@boiseschools.net
- An 8th grader's grade year would be 31, and a 9th grader would be 30
Password: your initials of your first and last name, as well as your 6 digit birthdate.
For example: John Rhodes, with DOB: 06/21/2007 would be a password of JR062107.

Parents: Call our front office to set up your parent account (208-854-5740). Check Infinite Campus regularly to keep track of your child's academic standing.

A good reminder for students and parents is to consistently check your email. Our school and our staff send a lot of our communication through emails and it's a good way to stay up to date on what's happening at North.

All of our teachers will have a Google Classroom setup and students can access it using their Gmail account.

Academic Planning

Our school counselors go into classrooms to do academic lessons every year. Students will fill out their 6 Year Plan in 7th grade which helps guide their academic journey. Feel free to setup a time to sit down with your counselor if you have specific questions.

Parent Night at North, January 14, 2026

We invite our incoming viking families to attend our annual Parent Night at North Jr. High. This is an open house event that allows incoming students and parents to familiarize themselves with the building, meet teachers and better understand our class offerings.

Admissions Day - TBD

Students will be able to retrieve their formal schedule in early August during our Admissions days. Info will also be online, through Infinite Campus, if you are not able to make it in person.

During Admissions day, students will be able to take a tour of campus, get into lockers and meet other students and teachers
