Registration open for 2020 Bohua Summer Camp classes

posted Jun 5, 2020, 3:55 PM by Lydia Deng

Dear all,

Due to the recent pandemic, only very limited classes and camps will be offered to the general public in this summer. The school council has received multiple inquiries and suggestions from the teachers and parents regarding the possibility of offering some learning opportunities during this challenging time. After serious consideration and intensive discussions among the school council and consultation with the teachers, Bohua Chinese School decides to offer some Chinese and EC classes in this summer. It should be noted the Chinese classes offered in this summer session won’t follow the curriculum we have been using in regular fall/spring semesters. Instead, the main goal of these classes is to inspire the students’ interest in learning while strengthening their Chinese language skills. Some EC classes are also offered.

The attached is the list of classes to be offered in this summer session (8 weeks total, between June 7 and Aug 2, class times varied). The registration link is shown below:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSecW-1LNUdEHkG723bEevmYxF3ZVARJ90ln3ea5WnoRnNmlcw/viewform

The registration deadline is 12pm (noon) on this Sunday (June 7), and the tuition is due upon registration. Please make the payment online using Zelle (recipient email address: principal@bohua.org), and leave the student’s name and class information in the memo. Should you have any questions, please feel free to let us know (for Chinese classes, please contact the teachers directly; for EC classes, please contact Mandy Liu, mandyliu530@gmail.com; for other issues, please email principal@bohua.org).

Hope everyone enjoys a safe, healthy, and happy summer!

Best,
Wei

Update on the fundraising event for local hospitals (Mar 26)

posted Mar 26, 2020, 2:36 PM by BoHua Chinese School

Dear all,

By 3:05pm today (Mar 26), the Bohua COVID-19 Donation Account, which was specifically set up for collecting donations for local hospitals, has received $6,388 in total. Other than cash, we have also collected many donated personal protection equipment (e.g., masks, gloves, etc.), and have delivered them to the following four medical facilities:

1. Boulder Community Hospital - 815 masks, 2300 gloves
2. Denver Health - 500 masks
3. Avista Adventist Hospital - 770 masks, 100 gloves
4. CU Denver Anschutz Medical Campus- 800 masks, 200 gloves

Currently the Bohua Anti-epidemic Organizing Group is actively exploring different channels for possible purchase of medical supplies (cash donation would be another option), and we decided to suspend the fundraising at this stage.

We sincerely thank all donors for your generosity and strong support for the frontline healthcare workers during this challenging time!

Stay safe and healthy, everyone!

Best,
Wei

Fundraising event for local hospitals

posted Mar 23, 2020, 3:02 PM by BoHua Chinese School   [ updated Mar 23, 2020, 3:03 PM ]

Dear all,

As you might be aware of already, Bohua Chinese School initiated the medical supplies donation event on March, 20, 2020. The people in this non-profit community are very aware and compassionate about what is happening in the world and within this short period of time we have collected 815 masks and 2300 gloves (all in their original packages and unopened). We are so grateful for your kindness and generosity to support local hospitals in their selfless actions to fight this virus. All these supplies have been delivered to the Boulder Community Hospital at 1:30pm today (Mar 23).

Now the official fundraising event for the front-line health workers that are fighting COVID-19 has started and is collecting donations now. Please make donation payments using Zelle online, with the recipient being donation@bohua.org. You may also donate by writing a check payable to Bohua Chinese School and to leave a memo of “CO Donation + [your full name, optional]”. Your donations are all greatly appreciated.

Thank you all so much for your support! We as a community must stay together and support each other during this challenging time.

Stay safe and healthy!

Best,
Wei

From the Principal's Desk: online classes will be held this Sunday (Mar 15)

posted Mar 11, 2020, 4:37 PM by BoHua Chinese School

Dear all,

Given the rapidly increasing number of presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in Colorado and the declaration of a state of emergency, after serious consideration, the school council has made the following decisions:

1. The Bohua Chinese School will start online classes using Zoom from this Sunday (Mar 15, regular school time, 2-4pm for Chinese, 1-2pm and 4-5pm for some EC classes). As I mentioned in earlier updates, some classes have already explored the online teaching/learning option within the past few weeks. Last Sunday (Mar 8), all Chinese teachers and some EC teachers have also attended a training/testing session hold at the school.

2. The teachers will send out guidelines within the next couple of days on how to join the online class and participate in the learning process. So please watch your email box carefully. In case you don’t receive an email by this Friday, please check with your teachers.

3. The school council and board members will keep monitoring closely the developing situation of COVID-19. In the meantime, the online classes will continue every Sunday, according to current Bohua school calendar (https://newsite.bohua.org/calendar) until further notice.

Stay safe and healthy!

Best,

Wei

Dear all,

As all of you are aware of, the current outbreak of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has raised worldwide concerns. China has taken unprecedented measures to control this rapidly evolving epidemic and to minimize the public health threat. It is heartbreaking to see and hear what people in China are suffering from sickness, fear, frustration, and exhaustion. So, let’s fight the virus together as a community. We request that you support us in raising funds by making contributions towards this thoughtfully designed "Be Strong, Wuhan" T-shirt (please see the image at the following website) sale event.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Argl5S-xCGVlLy4xYTEFRS2aTgxk1QzL3SGxP1zXNAo/edit

We only ask $15 for each T-shirt. 100% of the proceeds from this fundraising event will go to coronavirus victims at this challenging time.

Due to its urgency, please go to the website above and fill out your order and contact information by next Monday (Feb 10). Thank you very much for your support!

From the Principal's Desk: update on the school schedule

posted Jan 31, 2020, 7:47 AM by Lydia Deng

Dear all,

The school council and board members of Bohua Chinese School have watched closely the developing situation of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). As of Jan 30, 2020, there are no confirmed cases in Colorado. After many rounds of discussions and taking multiple factors (e.g., people traveling back from China, teachers' input, parents' concerns, etc.) into consideration, the school council decided to cancel all school activities on this Sunday (Feb 2), and resume regular school operations starting on Feb 9, unless CDC, the state, city, or the school district issues new guidelines next week.

Below is the tentative updated school schedule for the coming weeks:

1. Feb 2, no classes.
2. Feb 9, regular school schedule will resume, including both Chinese and EC classes. School will provide sanitizer onsite, and we don’t recommend students take snacks at school.
3. Feb 16, make-up day, both Chinese and EC classes will be held.

There are a few more things the council would like to emphasize:

1. For those families having members coming back from China recently (particularly from the Wuhan area), please make sure to let the travelers stay home for two weeks, with minimal exposure to public areas. If needed, please consult with professional medical personnel for advice and/or help.
2. Please emphasize to your children (all family members) the importance of washing their hands and covering their mouths when they sneeze.
3. We don’t recommend sending children who are sick to school, particularly during the flu season.
4. You can find more information and updates about the coronavirus at the following website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/index.html

Thank you all for your great patience and understanding! Take care.
