For those of you who are unfamiliar with the original myth (titled the Rape of Persephone) let me give you a bare-bones summary. Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, was in a garden one day when Hades, god of the dead, rides up in his chariot and kidnaps her. Demeter gets really ticked and starts to kill all the crops and stuff on earth. Zeus, king of the gods, eventually gets sick of the drought and tells Hades to bring Persephone back. Before they leave, he gives her a pomegranate which makes it so she can never leave the underworld permanently. So she spends six months on the surface where everything grows and thrives (spring and summer) and six months in the underworld where everything withers and dies (autumn and winter). Radiant Darkness tells basically the same story except it’s a romance. Rather than kidnapping her, he woos her.
