CP12: 2014: THE WOLF IN WINTER

SYNOPSIS
The community of Prosperous, Maine has always thrived when others have suffered. Its inhabitants are wealthy, its children's future secure. It shuns outsiders. It guards its own. And at the heart of the Prosperous lie the ruins of an ancient church, transported stone by stone from England centuries earlier by the founders of the town...

But the death of a homeless man and the disappearance of his daughter draw the haunted, lethal private investigator Charlie Parker to Prosperous. Parker is a dangerous man, driven by compassion, by rage, and by the desire for vengeance. In him the town and its protectors sense a threat graver than any they have faced in their long history, and in the comfortable, sheltered inhabitants of a small Maine town, Parker will encounter his most vicious opponents yet.

Charlie Parker has been marked to die so that Prosperous may survive.

'GHOSTS' - A SOUNDTRACK TO THE NOVELS, VOL. IV
As some of you may be aware — and, if you're not, then the "Vol. IV" above may be a bit of a giveaway — I've put together three previous compilations of music linked to the Parker books, and it seemed about time to do a fourth to give away with copies of the new book, especially as I'm pretty happy with THE WOLF IN WINTER and wanted to do something special to mark its publication.

GHOSTS includes tracks by XTC, Sun Kil Moon, Mogwai, Kristin Hersh and Scud Mountain Boys, among other equally illustrious names. As before, it's not so much music that I've listened to while writing — I tend to prefer silence when I work — but songs that have been referenced in the books or echo, in terms of lyrics or tone, the mood and concerns of the novels. It's also a fanboy thing, like handing out thousands of mixtapes to friends. If you do find something new that you like on the CD, then please explore further, and maybe let the artists know where you heard their music first.

Finally, the CD is a way to encourage readers to support their local bookstore. We will try to get them to as many bookstores as possible in Ireland, but it really is a limited release, and once the copies are gone, they're staying gone.
