Research Opportunity

Bloom’s Connect is pleased to announce a collaboration with  a group of physicians at  the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre  and Bloomsyndrome.eu  on a research project studying the effects of current cancer treatments on people with Bloom’s Syndrome.

As you are aware, Bloom’s Connect, as a group, exists to improve the quality of life for people with Bloom’s Syndrome and our support networks.  Bloom’s Connect is also very much aware of our small group size and the past lack of interest in Bloom’s Syndrome research.  We, at Bloom’s Connect, believe that the investment in this collaboration will open doors to new research, better treatments, and better quality of life for people with Bloom’s Syndrome and our support networks.

We also believe this effort will further bridge the gap between people experiencing Bloom’s Syndrome and the medical world and hope this collaboration will be just the first of its kind.

With this, Bloom’s Connect would like to highlight the following from our collaborators:

Together with the Bloomsyndrome.eu, the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre started a study on the treatment of cancer (outcome, special schemes, side effects) in Bloom patients. So far there is no scientific research which shows whether you need an adapted treatment. In order to investigate this subject the Radboud University is looking for case reports of Bloom patients with cancer. We hope to contact all these patients or their family or their docters to collect all the data we need. Most of the Bloom patients know this disease is very rare, so we really hope you will be willing to participate in our research. Together we want to optimize the treatment of cancer in Bloom patients!

If you want to participate or if you do have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Bloom's Connect or the Radboud Univeristy (m.schoenaker@cukz.umcn.nl)
