Betty Cutts, President and Founder
Betty is a housewife and community volunteer with a Master’s Degree
in Elementary Education. She has taught as a volunteer teacher in an English as a second language (ESL) program, and
two summer English camps in China. She has also served as a volunteer court
appointed special advocate (CASA). Presently she is treasurer of Morehead
Sister Cities and spearheads the Morehead exchanges with Yangshuo, Guangxi, China, Morehead’s Sister City. She
and her husband David, a retired physics teacher, have two sons who are engineers with national
companies and two grandchildren .
Xiaomin Mai Oney Board Member
Xiaomin Mai taught English at Guangxi Normal University before she became a visiting scholar at Morehead State University. After being a visiting scholar, she choose to come back to the USA and get a Master's Degree at MSU while being a graduate assistant in the Education Department. She is the mother of Maggie, a student at Rowan County Middle School in Morehead. She is married to Phillip Oney, an American businessman. Her connections at Guangxi Normal University have given open doors to English majors there to volunteer with Blessing Hands summer projects. She is a member of Blue Bank Church of God.
Doris Wells Secretary
Doris Wells is a retired secretary and real estate broker who lives with her husband Mickey in Morehead, Ky. She has been to China to visit our students and often volunteers with Blessing Hands. She has a full life as a grandmother of five and mother of two. She keeps busy with quilting, church work and grandmother duties.
Eric Zhang Vice President
Eric Zhang came to the US from the Yunnan Province of China in 1990 as a Chinese native speaker to assist the
Chinese Language and Culture Program at Whitman College in Washington State. He then
completed his Master's degree in Control Systems
Engineering at West Virginia Institute
of Technology. During his studies, he worked as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Mathematics. There he
met his wife, Destiny, who was born in China but grew up in Chile. The
couple have three children; Christina, Sophia and
Nathaniel and reside in Virgina Beach, Virgina. Professionally,
Eric has worked as a control systems engineer and senior engineer. While living in Lexington, KY, he taught a Chinese Language and
Culture Class to middle school students at Sayre School.
Erting Pan Treasurer
Erting Pan is a graduate of
Morehead State University with a major in accounting. She is a lifetime member of
Beta Gamma Sigma Organization, which is the international honor society for
collegiate schools of business and a member of Methodist Church.
She is married and the mother of Shanel Skaggs, an elementary student. She presently works as a loan officer in Lexington, KY. We are very pleased to have
Erting on our board.
Matthew Liu lives in Beijing. His family of five include his wife and
two little boys and a daughter living abroad. As a child from a poor
mountainous area in Guangdong, he remembers missing meat, and bread. His parents were teachers, so he had to study hard. He went to electricity school to reduce a lot of
burden on his family. He graduated in 1992 and was assigned to the Zhuhai Power Supply
Bureau. In 2000 he resigned and began investing in stocks. He started to travel for Blessing Hands as a volunteer starting in 2013, and became a board member in April, 2014.
