Board of Directors

Betty Cutts, President, and Founder

Betty is a housewife and community volunteer with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She has taught as a volunteer teacher in an English as a second language (ESL) program, and three summer English camps in China. She has also served as a volunteer court-appointed special advocate (CASA). Presently she is treasurer of Morehead Sister Cities and spearheads the Morehead exchanges with Yangshuo, Guangxi, China, Morehead’s Sister City. She is also secretary of the Morehead Rotary Club. She and her husband David, a retired physics teacher, have two sons, who are engineers with national companies, and two grandchildren. 

Xiaomin Mai Oney              T

Xiaomin Mai taught English at Guangxi Normal University before she became a visiting scholar at Morehead State University. After being a visiting scholar, she chose to come back to the USA and get a Master's Degree at MSU while being a graduate assistant in the Education Department. She is the mother of Maggie, a student at Rowan County High School in Morehead. She is married to Phillip Oney, an American businessman. Her connections at Guangxi Normal University have given open doors to English majors there to volunteer with Blessing Hands summer projects. 

Doris Wells                        Board Member

Doris Wells is a retired secretary and real estate broker who lives with her husband Mickey in Morehead, Ky. She has been to China to visit our students and often volunteers with Blessing Hands. She has a full life as a grandmother of five and mother of two. She keeps busy with quilting, church work and grandmother duties.

Eric Zhang                       Vice President

Eric Zhang came to the US from the Yunnan Province of China in 1990 as a Chinese native speaker to assist the Chinese Language and Culture Program at Whitman College in Washington State. He then completed his Master's degree in Control Systems Engineering at West Virginia Institute of Technology. During his studies, he worked as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Mathematics. There he met his wife, Destiny, who was born in China but grew up in Chile. The couple has three children; Christina, Sophia, and Nathaniel and reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Professionally, Eric has worked as a control systems engineer and senior engineer. While living in Lexington, KY, he taught a Chinese Language and Culture Class to middle school students at Sayre School.

Jessica Mansfield             

Jessica joined our board in December 2017 as board
secretary. She is a trained child and youth leader
focused on children in crises and a great interest in international travel to resource marginalized people. She
and her husband Aaron Mansfield have three children
from high school to primary school. She has a college degree in Urban and Cross-Cultural Ministries from Greenville College and an MA in Intercultural Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary. Her work experience ranges from radio broadcasting to teacher to programs management. She is excited to volunteer with Blessing Hands as board secretary and hopes to travel to China to volunteer with summer camps someday soon.

Matthew Liu                  Board Member

Matthew Liu lives in Shenzhen, China. His family has two sons and a daughter living abroad. As a child from a poor mountainous area in Guangdong, he remembers missing meat and bread. His parents were teachers, so he had to study hard. He went to electricity school to reduce a lot of the burden on his family. He graduated in 1992 and was assigned to the Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau. In 2000 he resigned and began investing in stocks. He started to travel for Blessing Hands as a volunteer starting in 2013 and became a board member in April 2014.

Jill Hill                                 Board Member

Jill Hill attended high school in Morehead, Kentucky, then graduated from Morehead State University with a degree in speech communications. She married Steve and moved to Texas where Steve taught high school mathematics. They then moved to Manila, the Philippines where they helped Blessing Hands serve children there. Steve and Jill recently moved their family back to her hometown of Morehead. Jill home schools some of their children: eight sons and one daughter.
