Board votes to Enter Thailand

Blessing Hands' Board Votes to Enter Thailand

Blessing Hands is considering helping En-Hui Chinese School in Thailand.

Yaya Luo has visited the school. I plan to visit there with Yaya in September. I did not go to China this summer, but perhaps I will be in Nanning after I go to Thailand.

Pastor Lee Tianshou 李天寿 and his wife started the school in 2004 and got legal certification for running the school in 2011.

The school is near Chaing Mai and the border with Myanmar in Northen Thailand. It is supported by a church as a school, orphanage, and refugee center. Many of the students are not Thai citizens and cannot leave the area.

Around sixty of the students out of eight hundred and seventy need sponsors. They are orphans, refugees, or abandoned children from large or drug families that cannot afford to pay for their education.
En-Hui a private language school, which focuses on teaching students Chinese, Math, Bible, and a little bit of English. Most students come to learn two to three hours in the afternoon or in the evening after their regular Thai schooling which is free.

They have mostly younger children but have given high school degrees for the first time this year. They have 2 centers in two sites in this village of 22,000 people.

Yaya has decided to help this school get a water puriifer and found a sponsor for one. She hopes to get another one for the new building. They need better storage tanks also. Blessing Hands cannot raise money in China, but Yaya can ask her friends privately for help for projects.
Pastor Lee, the principal says they do not have enough water. They need to purify the water since they have to drink it as well. Another purifier is needed for the new orphange and refugee center they are building. They are replacing the present orphan and refugree house.

$22,034 USD is needed to finish it. On the second floor, they will have an activities center for kids for learning at night, weekends and other activities.
They have very simple classrooms. The desks are not good for use due to the height and being so heavy for kids. Sometimes they knock them over, and students may be hurt.

However, the most important thing that they want is projectors for lower middle school students. If they had some, it would help students to learn better.

Yaya is determined to get them library books and has been asking her friends to fund some books in Chinese.
New Chief Representive in China
Yaya Luo is going to be our Chief Representative in China since Matthew Liu has to give up the post for family reasons. Yaya has worked with Blessing Hand since 2011 when she was our first employee.

Tian Muying will continue to be our full-time Assistant Director in Nanning. They will work together. Yaya is from the Buyi minority group so she understands our minority students. She will still teach private English classes. Yaya is very interested in expanding our work to Thailand.
These four students are at Lingchuan High School. Blessing Hands has 20 sponsored students there. Their support is $33 a month if you want to sponsor one. Just contact us to arrange a sponsorship.

A Letter from Our Student

We got this letter recently from Xiaoting, a senior student graduating from high school in Qinzhou. Her father has died and the family needed help so she could continue her education. We are so glad to help students like her succeed in school and life.

Dear Blessing Hands,

How is everything? I'm one of the students you helped. My name is Yang Xiaoting. I am a senior high school student, and I am a girl of seventeen. I am very grateful for your help, which makes me have more courage to face life and study.

My father died when I was ten, leaving behind my elderly mother and my brothers. My relatives treat us badly and don't care much about us, so we have to make a living by ourselves. My older brother had to drop out of school to work because of our family's financial difficulties. And my younger brother is too young to work and has to go on to school.

I am also in school, but I have to work on my own during the summer and winter holidays to earn my living expenses. However, the Hand of Blessing has helped ease the financial pressure on our family, and I am very grateful for the help. I will always remember this kindness and pass it on to help those in need.

There is an old Chinese saying: a drop of water should be returned like the sea.

Thank you again, sincerely.
I always believe that love never goes out. So I will pass the love on to everyone.

Best wishes.
yours,
Yang Xiaoting

Mrs. Wang in the yellow shirt is the head of the charity that we partner with in that area, the Wuxuan County Xiancheng Love Association. You can get pictures of them and thank you notes. We have 17 students there who do not have sponsors.
You can sponsor a student by Paypal on this link.

Happy Spring

Spring Greetings from Blessing Hands
Huang Lingyu needs an operation to replace her cochlear implant. She has been deaf since a small child but received an implant about three years ago. It needs updating now, which will cost a lot of money for this rural single-parent family. Huang Lingyu attends the National Special Education School in Du'an County and has been sponsored by Blessing Hands for several years. She is a vivacious girl.

Cochlear implants bypass the normal acoustic hearing process, by replacing it with electronic hearing.

Money has come from other sources, but she still lacks $3,000 USD for the operation. Blessing Hands has raised $1,980 of this money so far. Will you help her with a donation to bring in the last $1020 needed?

Guo Family
Mr. Guo is getting much better. He really wants to go back to work as soon as possible. He is the pillar of the family now since his wife's death in the fire that nearly killed him also. He is trying his very best to recover both physically and emotionally.

His biggest concern is for his oldest daughter, Ronghua, who will enter higher middle school next fall. Her grades are good and her teachers are pleased with her, so he hopes she will test well. She had been concerned about the new school expenses causing more debts for her family, but we assured her and her father that she has a good family sponsoring her that will help her with her educational expenses all the way through school. She can also get some government tuition help since the situation of the family has changed dramatically.

We have started the Guo family's monthly payments of $175(1,000 RMB). The monthly support is only until he is able to work again. People really stepped up to help this family that were victims of an arsonist who later killed himself. Nothing can replace their mother who died of burns days after the fire, but we can help the family members that remain.

If you are willing to give toward their monthly family support until Mr. Guo can work again, please email us.
Education Department Meeting

Blessing Hands was invited to a meeting with the Education Department of Guangxi. The four foreign non-governmental organizations registered in Guangxi attended. Tian Muling and Matthew Liu represented Blessing Hands. Two FNGOs were from the USA and there was one each from Hong Kong and France. The meeting was to meet one another and relate our progress and problems to the Education Department. The meeting went well and our charity compared well with others.

In the future, we will need to notify the local Education Departments when we want to go to a school in their area. We already needed to tell the local security police when we were coming. Our NGO did not have any issues, but the French organization was having trouble communicating with schools and visiting their children. It was a cordial meeting.
Pictures of our students at the National Special Education School in Du'an County came recently. I want to feature these three blind students especially. These three students need sponsors to give $295 a year for their school needs. We hope to connect them with volunteer English tutors from the USA. Pick one and message us.

Quanyin is a 14-year-old male, He is blind and takes part in distance learning in computer training. His older sisters are in college. He wants to be able to support himself someday. His father is disabled and his mother is sick. He has participated in the disabled swimming championships inside and outside the province and won several swimming competition medals.
Yijian
Yijian is blind but very interested in learning English and computers. She lives in Du'an County. There are 6 people in the family - grandfather, father, mother, sister, and brother. Her grandfather is old and weak, and his spirit is out of order. The younger brother is studying in primary school. The family is large, but the labor force is thin and the fields are small. The mother takes care of the sick grandparents while farming and the father goes out to work part-time to maintain their livelihood. Their family life is very difficultShe is learning computers through distance learning from a charity for the blind in Shanghai.
Fengzhu
Fengzhu is a 12-year-old boy. There are 5 people in his family (Dad, Mother, Fengzhu and two younger brothers). Two of the younger brothers are still very young.

Fengzhu is a sensible, diligent child who loves to learn. Now he is studying in the sixth grade of the blind class of the National Special Education School in Du'an County, Guangxi Province. He is a boarder at the school, and the basic cost of living in the school and the tolls for returning home on weekends are difficult to solve.
You Can be a Hero to a Child!
If you want to sponsor one of these blind students you can at this link. We hope that you will be blessed in this season of spring and new life.

Happy New Year

posted Feb 4, 2019, 11:26 AM by Betty Cutts

Chinese New Year is Here
It is the Year of the Pig!
We hope that you have a wonderful Year of the Pig.
The Kentucky Chinese American Association hosts a large celebration at the Lexington Opera House yearly. They graciously give us a table. We got $80 in donations for the Guo family’s medical bills. It was a lot of fun. The children were so cute. One little girl's dress had the same pattern as my jacket.
Good News!

Mr. Guo is home from the hospital now. Since the kids have a month long holiday from school, he can be with his children for the New Year Holiday.

He and his wife were tragically burned when an arsonist burned their living space. Mr. Guo lived, but his wife died after 15 days in ICU. His children have just been told recently that their mother is gone. They are "left behind children" of their migrant parents, so they escaped the fire.

Blessing Hands has collected $10,199 so far for the family's medical bills and was able to send $725 of that for the New Year holiday. All three children now have sponsors for their educational needs and soon the family will only owe $20,000 more in medical debts. Lexington Chinese Christian Church members have given $2,109 and taken the youngest boy to sponsor. We are very grateful to all who have given.

We plan to help them with $144 (1,000 rmb) a month until he can work again. Sponsorship for the children will continue until they graduate or do not need it anymore.

If you would like to be a sponsor for a month of family support let us know. It only takes 12 people giving for one month to cover them for a year. We already have one pledge of $15 a month.

You can send a check to Blessing Hands, 106 Timber Lane, Morehead, KY, 40351. Our website also has a place to give online. Any amount is welcome and you can choose to make it reoccuring through Paypal or a bill pay at your bank. You can even give on our Facebook page.

We have also started a GoFundMe page for his medical expenses. Check it out.
We have a photo of his feet up close. Let us trust that he continues to improve as he applies medicine to his body daily. The charcoal fire is to keep him warm in this cold weather.
We have 10 high school students in Du'an County, Guangxi Province who need sponsors. This Yao Minority area is very poor. Their sponsorships are given for school aid, transportation needs, medical care, and personal needs such as clothes and shoes to go to school. The students need sponsors willing to give $391 a year or $32.60 a month. Be a hero to a student.

Give on our website.

Contact us to set up a bill pay with your bank.

1.       Good news! The government of China is now offering high school tuitions to students living below the Chinese poverty level and paying other supplements up to 2500 yuan ($363) for especially poor students of any age who qualify. In the same way that we continued to help our lower middle school students when the government began to offer free public education until age fifteen in 2007, we don’t want to abandon our high school students now.

Most of our teacher volunteers in the schools think that their students still need help with extras like resource books, transportation, food, and school clothes. As long as the volunteers are willing to do the paperwork, we will be willing to offer sponsorships. This increased educational help from the government extends to scholarships to college, so that may taper off applications from new scholarship students.

As I read the letters of needs written by the students applying this year, I had to agree that they still needed our help. So we will continue to sponsor students whose volunteer administrators think they need our help. 😀 We will also be on the alert to find new projects that will be welcomed by the students and schools.
Three Longfu Primary Schools Receive Gifts
We give playground equipment, art supplies, exercise books, resource books, and other school supplies to three small Yao primary schools in the Longfu Township of Du'an. We just got pictures from Dr. Dai, our volunteer there. We also give them all shoes in the winter semester. Money for this comes from the cash jars we place in Chinese restaurants, so put in your change.

A online Tencent donation page for this school was generously supplied by Amity Foundation. Many of you gave small amounts, but it only raised about a fourth of the funds we needed for the computer program. Alex Wang will be able to continue his distance learning classes in computers for blind students, but we did not raise money for all the computers we wanted to give the school. If you want to give a computer, let us know. It would be about $500 per computer.

We have ten new special education kids who need to be sponsored in addition to the 10 we already support. They have various handicaps but can learn. Message us which one you want.
Visit our Website at www.blessing-hands.org and donate on our Paypal page. You can also send your sponsorship to Blessing Hands, 106 Timber Lane, Morehead, KY 40351.

New Program in Yunnan Province

Yanlin Pan needs a new sponsor
Her sponsor could no longer help her, so Yanlin Pan needs a new one. We have funded 5o scholarship of $650 each this fall with your help.
I'm Pansy, a student studying in San Ming University in Fujian. This year is the third year I will be studying here. I will graduate in 2020. I get pretty good grades in school and work hard in my study. My major is engineering costs. It's a major about architecture. I want to be a cost engineer, so I decided to choose this major at my university.

I’m an optimistic and active girl. I hope I can change my life. My parents are dead, and I live with my grandparents and my brother. The tuition is hard for my family. So I hope you can help me to make my dream come true.

When I grow up, I will help others just like you. Blessing hands gives me love, so I will give love to others. Can you help me receive a scholarship for my last two years of college?

I will very grateful and study harder. Even if you could help me or not, I will never give up but always love my life and go ahead.

Thank you so much. Give Here
Blessings to you.
Yanlin Pan

It makes it all worthwhile when Luo Hongyi writes a letter like the one below.

Thank you for your help in the last few years. I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Blessing Hands.

Time is passing quickly. I will graduate in June next year. With your help, I will succeed in finishing my university. It was fortunate for me to meet you, and you have given me a lot of warmth and love, which made me happy to finish college like other students. Thousands of words cannot express my gratitude to you. I think I will find opportunities to be a teacher after graduation, and I will exhaust my ability to bring help and warmth to others.

Four years in college, I live a full life every day, studying hard, using spare time to do family education, sometimes going to volunteer activities. I am very happy. Every vacation, I did a part-time job. I think I am very brave. I bravely go to a strange place, I bravely go to make friends with strangers, and I bravely go to earn my own living expenses. I am proud of myself.

Betty, you have always been my driving force. I remember that year you came to see us at our school. You gave me a big hug. I felt very warm and very moved. I love you.
In short, I will always remember your love for me, and I will be able to do something meaningful like you in the future.

Thank you and thank the Blessing Hands forever,

Yours
Luo Hongyi

Sharing Grace Program

We are starting a new program called Sharing Grace in Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Jinghong City. I met Angie Fan at breakfast one morning in Kunming where her family manages a hotel we were staying in. She was from Tennessee just like me, so we had a great time speaking English.

Soon she found that I had a charity in China that helps poor families. She got very interested in becoming an administrator to help children needing educational help in the area where they also manage another hotel. Her husband, Dominic Fan cried when he told me about families he knew who really needed help.

So we now have 8 new primary students who need sponsors and one high school student. They are minority students from distant villages whose parents have come to the city looking for work. You can sponsor one primary student pictured here for $265 a year.
Blessings and thanks,

Summer Camp

Volunteer at Our Friendship Camp in June
Teachers and Translators Welcome
June 10th - 16th
Interested in a life-changing experience?

Blessing Hands Charity is having a summer Friendship camp in Anlong No. 1 High School in Guizhou Province. The camp is from June 10th through June 16th. We are looking for English speaking volunteers who would like an adventure in China while helping high school students with spoken English.

We plan to teach in the school's regular English classes that are usually 40 minutes long. Volunteers can do a PowerPoint on any topic concerning American culture such as history, geography, customs, holidays, and food. I taught a popular class on weddings one year. The same lesson can be taught many times since teachers would rotate to different classes of about 50 friendly, excited students.

At night we will have special activities with the 31 students sponsored by Blessing Hands at the high school and the lower middle school nearby. We would have a movie, singing, dancing, drama, or a talent show depending on the talents of the teachers that they can share with the students.

The high school is new and volunteers will stay in the dorm and eat school food. Coming and going the trip might total two weeks or more with travel included, but volunteers could also travel to some of the other schools we have students in and stay longer after the camp. The total cost might be around $2,500 depending on the cost of the overseas airfare and how long you stay in China.  We leave on June 5th to fly to Shanghai. If you stay the whole month with us as we visit Yangshuo and Guilin, July 9th would be your return date.

Contact us if you want a volunteer form or more information.

We are adding 16 new students at Anlong No. 2 Lower Middle School in Guizhou Province. Most of them are from the Buyi Minority. That will give 31+ students for our summer camp in Anlong in late June. If the camp is approved by the Education and Security Departments, we will be looking for intrepreters and foreign English teachers.

Sponsor a middle school student partially for $160 a year. That is just $14 a month. You can give full support that furnishes books, food, and school supplies for $350 a year. Check the recurring box to give $30 a month.

Sponsor a high school student partially for $190 a year or completely for $415 a year. The monthly pledge would be $15 a month for partial support or $35 a month for full support.

"My name is Zhao Liuye, and I'm attending grade 5 in elementary school. I was born in a remote village in Yunnan. We were not wealthy but we had enough for our own living happily.

Last year, my father's car accident changed everything. He was paralyzed. We sold our field but still owe the hospital a couple hundred thousand RMB. We thought of everything that could help, but sometimes we couldn't even afford our food expenses. It's a problem for me to go to school even when I don't need to pay for my tuition (I still need to pay for my school supplies and living expenses). My mother has to go into the city to work, leaving my 70-year-old grandmother to take care of my father and my 3-year-old brother. It is very difficult for my whole family."

Give $24 a month or you can give $290 a year to sponsor her in the 5th grade.  Give $84 if you want to give partial support.
