New Program in Yunnan Province

posted Sep 10, 2018, 4:45 PM by Betty Cutts

Yanlin Pan needs a new sponsor
Her sponsor could no longer help her, so Yanlin Pan needs a new one. We have funded 5o scholarship of $650 each this fall with your help.
I'm Pansy, a student studying in San Ming University in Fujian. This year is the third year I will be studying here. I will graduate in 2020. I get pretty good grades in school and work hard in my study. My major is engineering costs. It's a major about architecture. I want to be a cost engineer, so I decided to choose this major at my university.

I’m an optimistic and active girl. I hope I can change my life. My parents are dead, and I live with my grandparents and my brother. The tuition is hard for my family. So I hope you can help me to make my dream come true.

When I grow up, I will help others just like you. Blessing hands gives me love, so I will give love to others. Can you help me receive a scholarship for my last two years of college?

I will very grateful and study harder. Even if you could help me or not, I will never give up but always love my life and go ahead.

Thank you so much. Give Here
Blessings to you.
Yanlin Pan

It makes it all worthwhile when Luo Hongyi writes a letter like the one below.

Thank you for your help in the last few years. I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Blessing Hands.

Time is passing quickly. I will graduate in June next year. With your help, I will succeed in finishing my university. It was fortunate for me to meet you, and you have given me a lot of warmth and love, which made me happy to finish college like other students. Thousands of words cannot express my gratitude to you. I think I will find opportunities to be a teacher after graduation, and I will exhaust my ability to bring help and warmth to others.

Four years in college, I live a full life every day, studying hard, using spare time to do family education, sometimes going to volunteer activities. I am very happy. Every vacation, I did a part-time job. I think I am very brave. I bravely go to a strange place, I bravely go to make friends with strangers, and I bravely go to earn my own living expenses. I am proud of myself.

Betty, you have always been my driving force. I remember that year you came to see us at our school. You gave me a big hug. I felt very warm and very moved. I love you.
In short, I will always remember your love for me, and I will be able to do something meaningful like you in the future.

Thank you and thank the Blessing Hands forever,

Yours
Luo Hongyi

Sharing Grace Program

We are starting a new program called Sharing Grace in Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Jinghong City. I met Angie Fan at breakfast one morning in Kunming where her family manages a hotel we were staying in. She was from Tennessee just like me, so we had a great time speaking English.

Soon she found that I had a charity in China that helps poor families. She got very interested in becoming an administrator to help children needing educational help in the area where they also manage another hotel. Her husband, Dominic Fan cried when he told me about families he knew who really needed help.

So we now have 8 new primary students who need sponsors and one high school student. They are minority students from distant villages whose parents have come to the city looking for work. You can sponsor one primary student pictured here for $265 a year.
Blessings and thanks,

Betty Cutts, Director and Founder of Blessing Hands

Summer Camp

Volunteer at Our Friendship Camp in June
Teachers and Translators Welcome
June 10th - 16th
Interested in a life-changing experience?

Blessing Hands Charity is having a summer Friendship camp in Anlong No. 1 High School in Guizhou Province. The camp is from June 10th through June 16th. We are looking for English speaking volunteers who would like an adventure in China while helping high school students with spoken English.

We plan to teach in the school's regular English classes that are usually 40 minutes long. Volunteers can do a PowerPoint on any topic concerning American culture such as history, geography, customs, holidays, and food. I taught a popular class on weddings one year. The same lesson can be taught many times since teachers would rotate to different classes of about 50 friendly, excited students.

At night we will have special activities with the 31 students sponsored by Blessing Hands at the high school and the lower middle school nearby. We would have a movie, singing, dancing, drama, or a talent show depending on the talents of the teachers that they can share with the students.

The high school is new and volunteers will stay in the dorm and eat school food. Coming and going the trip might total two weeks or more with travel included, but volunteers could also travel to some of the other schools we have students in and stay longer after the camp. The total cost might be around $2,500 depending on the cost of the overseas airfare and how long you stay in China.  We leave on June 5th to fly to Shanghai. If you stay the whole month with us as we visit Yangshuo and Guilin, July 9th would be your return date.

Contact us if you want a volunteer form or more information.

Most of our students in Anlong are from the Buyi Minority. They have their own language, culture, and religion. They are known for their weaving, cooking, needle work, and unique national dress seen here.
Anlong No. 2 Lower Middle School

We are adding 16 new students at Anlong No. 2 Lower Middle School in Guizhou Province. Most of them are from the Buyi Minority. That will give 31+ students for our summer camp in Anlong in late June. If the camp is approved by the Education and Security Departments, we will be looking for intrepreters and foreign English teachers.

Sponsor a middle school student partially for $160 a year. That is just $14 a month. You can give full support that furnishes books, food, and school supplies for $350 a year. Check the recurring box to give $30 a month.

Sponsor a high school student partially for $190 a year or completely for $415 a year. The monthly pledge would be $15 a month for partial support or $35 a month for full support.

"My name is Zhao Liuye, and I'm attending grade 5 in elementary school. I was born in a remote village in Yunnan. We were not wealthy but we had enough for our own living happily.

Last year, my father's car accident changed everything. He was paralyzed. We sold our field but still owe the hospital a couple hundred thousand RMB. We thought of everything that could help, but sometimes we couldn't even afford our food expenses. It's a problem for me to go to school even when I don't need to pay for my tuition (I still need to pay for my school supplies and living expenses). My mother has to go into the city to work, leaving my 70-year-old grandmother to take care of my father and my 3-year-old brother. It is very difficult for my whole family."

Give $24 a month or you can give $290 a year to sponsor her in the 5th grade.  Give $84 if you want to give partial support.

#GoodGiving Challenge for Unique Donors

posted Dec 11, 2017, 5:48 PM by Betty Cutts

We could win $2.000!
We need unique donors to our #GoodGivingGuide Challenge!
Don't miss this!

We just heard that there is a special promotion starting today, December 11th.
The  #GoodGivingGuide nonprofit to acquire the MOST UNIQUE donors between 9 am EST on December 11 and ending at 5 pm EST on December 15 wins a cash donation to their leaderboard of $2000.

WOW, that would carry us a long way toward of our goal of sponsoring 10 students in the Philippines. All we have to do is get a lot of people to give as little as ten dollars during the next five days. If you were  going to give during the campaign, now is the time to do it.

Our #GoodGivingGuide donation page is https://www.bggives.org/blessinghands

Offer valid through December 15! Tell a friend!

Matt Jaycob is 5 years old and is in Kindergarten class. He has a brother who studies in the nearest public school and a sister who passed away when she was only 5 years old due to a rare illness. Matt Jaycob lives with his family of four in a small house that has no water connection. His family also lives with one more family. All in all, they are about ten living in one small house with no bedrooms. Matt Jaycob gets water from the nearest watering station which cost $.06 (USD) for 10 pails of water. The family would do this everyday since they need water for bathing, washing, cooking, and cleaning. Matt Jaycob's parents are hoping for a sponsor to support Matt's education.

You can sponsor him for $500 a year  Sponsor Matt
You can spread the payments out  to give $42 monthly.

Support Filipino Children

I am getting excited about our GoodGiving Challenge especially our Hoops for Children events that will be at Lexington Chinese Christian Church and Morehead United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 2nd from 11 to 3 pm. I hope you will bring your children and help them get pledges from their friends and neighbors to do feats to raise money for sponsorship of our new children in Manila, Philippines.  You can even eat hotdogs for lunch there.

We have been helping with a feeding program there for several years, but now we are actually sponsoring 10 children in a very poor area of Manila.

If you can't come that day, you can still do feats for pledges and give the money on our GoodGiving Fundraising page until December 31st.  Ellie my granddaughter did her feats early since she cannot come to  Hoops for Children. She raised $25 and had a lot of fun. She ran for a minute on our treadmill and enjoyed the basket toss.

The giving page will not be alive until 9am on Tuesday, November 28th. Be one of the first to give online for the challenge this year.

Amazon Smile on Black Friday

Just today I bought some stickers to use for Hoops for Children and got to enter Smile first before Amazon. That way a portion of what I spent went to Blessing Hands. Support us when you shop on Black  Friday. Go to smile.amazon.com/ch/20-4794276  and Amazon donates to Blessing Hands Inc.

Happy Almost Thanksgiving!

We want to let you know how thankful we are for having you as a supporter. With your help, we can spread our sponsorship program to the Philippines to help ten primary students in Riversprings School and extend our feeding program to more kids in the slums of Manila.

Hoops for Children

Blessing Hands is hosting a fundraiser, Hoops for Children, to help kids in the Philippines go to school. Sign up your friends and neighbors to pledge donations for feats or dares you do such as running laps, making basketball hoops, jumping rope, sit-ups, walking, hula-hoops, etc.

You can do them anytime, but for more fun come to the Morehead United Methodist Church or Lexington Chinese Christian Church on Saturday, December 2nd from 11am to 3pm. There will be concessions and feats to do. Kids helping kids is our theme.

Calling all volunteers

We need volunteers for our Hoops for Children events on Saturday, December 2nd both in Lexington and Morehead. A lot can be done ahead of time so volunteer even if you can't come on that day. We need signs made for our feat centers, door prizes, food purchased in bulk (hot dogs, chips, and cookies), and people promoting our event on their facebook pages, in youth groups, and clubs. Ambassadors can sign up for their own fundraising pages right on our giving page. The more the merrier.  This is an offline part of our #GoodGiving Challenge.

Ambassador pages are like Go Fund Me pages that promote donations to the children in the Philippines among your circle of friends.

About 30 volunteers are needed per event, so give us a email to tell us what you want to do.  I am no good at hula hoops, but I can sew the bean bags for the basket toss. You can help too, even if you don't come to our event, by getting your children to do feats at home for pledges from your friends and neighbors and give the money online through our giving page or send a check to Blessing Hands, 106 Timber Lane, Morehead, KY, 40351.

Remember the giving page is not active until Giving Tuesday on November 28th.
We are legal in China

After a 10 months of paperwork, meetings, notaries, and waiting, we are legal finally as a Foreign Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) in China! This is our 12th year of helping kids in China.

The government offices have been very helpful and informative. They have helped us find a way to fund our projects in five Provinces of China. 385 students will be sponsored this school year.  Help us spread to the Philippines and help even more children during our #GoodGiving Challenge this holiday season.

Our giving page will be open to receive donations on November 28th for Giving Tuesday and stay ready to give until December 31st. Help a child this giving season.
