A Note To My BJAMS Families

Dear Parents/Guardians of our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders,
The purpose of this website is twofold: provide up-to-date timelines for homework, assessments, and projects, and showcase images of what we're studying, discussing, and exploring. If this website ignites questions, thoughts, or ideas, please feel free to send them my way; I love feedback. Also, if your profession has any direct or indirect science application, I'd love for you to visit and share with us. Students connect with local application.

In addition to the various scientific principles and concepts your children will learn this year, I will be working on developing your child's skills in listening, note-taking, studying, and test-taking. It's always been my belief that children learn to become students in middle school, not high school (by then it's nearly too late). And how about their progress?  Checking Renweb for your child's grades and asking them how they did on a quiz or assignment seems to be the norm, along with following up when a score or grade is low. Well, I'm requesting that you follow up on all scores - low and high. Why the high ones like 90s, 95s, or 100s ? Well, for some students, the idea of a "preparation system" eludes them. They fail to connect everything they did, all the preparation put into getting that 90 or 95. That's where parents/ guardians can help. "Hey Joannie, so how did you manage to get a 90% this time? Really, what did you do differently? Oh, so this time you set aside specific time each night to study and it seemed to keep you more consistent. Hey, if it's getting results - stick to it." Perhaps this is the moment when your child becomes studious or refines their skills. Please feel free to email or stop me in the school hallway anytime.

It's going to be a great year for all of us!
Honored to serve,
