National Level Symposium on Antiviral Research and Therapy (NLSART2016)
March 18-19, 2016

About NLSART2016

Background: India as an emerging economy has a big challenge in facing the disease burden due to virus caused infections like HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis (HCV & HBV) and Dengue. Problem gets compounded by the factor due to new/ previously unreported/emerging/ re-emerging viruses like Nipah virus, Thottapalayam virus, Chandipura virus, Chikungunya, EV-71, CCHF, SARS and buffulopox since 2001. Influenza due to H1N1 (2009, 2014-2015) and H5N1 (2006-2011) has created a panic and exposed our unpreparedness to deal with such viral outbreaks.

We have only 0.02% of population actively engaged in research that is being supported by the government with the investment of 0.81% of GDP. We need to make a sizeable percentage of these available resources to participate in antiviral research and to develop effective therapeutic means to handle it.

The objective of the symposium is to create awareness amongst the researchers in academia and industry to take up the challenges due to viral infection.  This provides a platform for the researchers in academia and industry to share their knowledge and views amongst themselves. An opportunity to develop Institute-Industry partnership programs and Collaborative Research Initiatives with Institutes in developed countries can be envisaged with the program of this calibre.
