About Me

My name is Mr. Tom Copps, and I have been teaching at Bishop Stang since 2007.  I came to the school following a rewarding 15-year engineering career.  My engineering experience was in coastal and oceanographic analysis and design, focusing on shore protection, flood control, and environmental restoration.  While I never lost my enthusiasm for the field, I gradually became more interested in working with students and passing along my enthusiasm for science and mathematics, and where the subjects can take students.

As a teacher I feel that listening to our students is the most critical thing we can do.  I seek to understand as deeply as possible the students' acheivements and capabilities, and gently but consistently challenge them.   I do my best to help the students see that education not only prepares for the unknown career challenges that lie before them, but also help them learn about themselves.  Finally, I seek to convey to the students that they, both as individuals and as a group, are valuable to me and are the reason I love what I do.
