Choose a photograph that you think will work with embroidery thread.
Crop it and edit it because you won't have a "digital" product at the end of this. The way it is printed is how it will look.
We will print 2 copies it in class and you will use colored pencils to decide where the design of thread will go on the first print.
We will spray one of the prints onto cardstock paper to make it thicker.
You will use the needle to poke holes in the front of the image before you start embroidering.
Choose a color thread and put it through the eye of the needle. Make an arm length section and then use scissors to cut it. Knot the end with an overhand knot.
Start in the back of the photo and push thread into the first hole and pull up gently. Press needle down into the next hole.
Keep Going.
Embroidery is the craft of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn.
Embroidery may also incorporate other materials such as pearls, beads, quills, and sequins.
In modern days, embroidery is usually seen on caps, hats, coats, blankets, dress shirts, denim, dresses, stockings, and golf shirts. Embroidery is available with a wide variety of thread or yarn color.
but when used in conjunction with photography, one can make an image come to life and incorporate more line, color, shape, and texture, some of the key elements and principles of art and design.
OBJECTIVE: SWBAT USE EMBROIDERY TECHNIQUES TO ENHANCE AND ADORN THE IMAGE WITH THE USE OF COLOR AND LINE.
Begin with choosing one of your own photographs (from class, from a vacation, from home, or even your cell phone as long as it is good quality) Upload the image to Classroom and I will print it onto heavier photo paper.
Begin with tracing paper, start designing using lines and shapes to enhance or incorporate uniqueness to your original photo. This doesn't have to be realistic. Don't want clouds or sun rays? Use words or even small images. This tracing paper will be used as your design plan
.
Begin by threading your needle. Poke a hole where your easiest starting point is. Be sure to knot the back of your thread. Then begin to sew in front and behind your photo
.
Don't worry, your photo will be messy on the back. The lines do not matter, no one will see the knots or anything behind the photo
