Liminal Spaces

Liminal space photography captures empty, transitional places that feel frozen in time, creating a strange mix of nostalgia, loneliness, and quiet dread.

What is a Liminal Space?

• The Threshold: Derived from the Latin word līmen (threshold), liminality refers to the "in-between" state of being on a boundary or passing from one place to another.

• Common Subjects: Hallways, empty hotel corridors, abandoned shopping malls, deserted parking lots, and vacant classrooms.

• The Missing Element: These are locations meant to be filled with people and activity, but shown completely devoid of life
