Step 1: Picking your images

Person

Choose a Black individual from the past or recent culture (Rosa Parks, Ophra, JayZ).
Only colored photographs for this project. Do not use Black/White photos
Full body images work best for this pro

Wallpaper

Google Images look for Victorian Wallpaper
Pick a pattern that has lots of flowers and designs.
Save it
You may find your own or use one of the wallpapers I’ve saved b

Step 2:

Go to File- New
Width 10 inches
Height 15 inches
Resolution 72
Background W

hite

Step 3:

Open your person
Use the Quick Selection Tool to cut them

Step 4:

Move your quick selected person onto the white ca

nvas

Step 5:

Move the Victorian Wall Paper ontop of your person
Use Control T to make the Wall Paper completely cover the white ca

nvas

Step 6:

Right click on the Quick Selection Tool
Pick the Magic Wand Tool
Make sure the Contigous and Sample All Layers boxes are UNCHE

Step 7:

Zoom in super close
Click the Magic Want Tool anywhere in the BACKGROUND area of the Victorian Wallpaper
DO NOT click on any of the objects. Just the background
This will select the whole background color and have flashing lines everyw

here

Step 8:

Click the Delete Key (the background color will disap

per)

Step 9:

Select (top of photoshop)
Click Dese

Step 10:

We will now be changing the background color. Do NOT leave your background white!!!!!!!
Click on your Background Layer
Click on the Paint Bucket

Step 11:

Pick a color that is the Opposite of the flower/design colors. You want the background color to POP out against the flowers/design
Click the Paint bucket tool on the white area of your canvas
If you do not like the color you can select a new color. Just select a new color and use the paint bucket tool ag

ain.

Step 12:

Click on the wallpaper layer (you must be on the wallpaper layer, not the person layer)
Click Control-J (this will duplicate the la

yer)

Step 13:

Click and Drag your Person Layer so that it is between the two wallpaper la

yers

Step 14:

Add a Layer Mask onto your top Wallpaper layer (layer mask is the black/white circle at the bottom of the layers pa

llet

Step 15:

With the black paint brush, paint off sections of the flowers/design that is covering your person.
Zoom in really close to see the details of what you are painting off
Do not take off to much
If you want to put back on some of the wallpaper, change the brush to white and paint it back

Step 16:

When you are done taking off the wallpaper on your person flatten your image
Go to Image- Adjustments- Hue Satura

Move the Saturation layer to the right
