Newbery Award

The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is given to the author of the best book in American literature for children for the year. These are typically chapter books.  Often these titles are above the reading or comprehension level of our third and fourth grade students.  Therefore, only those Newbery books that are appropriate for our grade levels are on the LeVasseur library shelves.

The  Newbery Award winner is announced in January.
