Welcome to Mrs. Trudeau's classroom website!!!! We are going to have a great 2013-2014 school year!! I am very excited about this class. This is my 10th year teaching first grade at LeVasseur School. I absolutely adore my first graders and all of the fun reading development that happens during the first grade year of school.
A little about myself... I live in Bradley, IL. I have been married for 8 years to my husband Nick and we have 3 children; my step-daughter Hannah is a sophomore this year, my son Nickolas (Nicky) is a second grader at Bradley East this year, and my youngest, Nathan, is 4 years old and in preschool. I grew up in rural Kankakee and attended Limestone and Herscher schools. I graduated in 2004 from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Early Childhood Studies. In my spare time I enjoy baking and recently have taken up cake decorating! I am a Cubs fan and had fun going to a game with my family right before school began! Autumn is my favorite time of year and I love attending/watching football (da Bears!) with my family and playing with my kids!
My philosophy on education is centered around self-esteem. I truly feel that the child will only learn when he/she feels capable, empowered and confident and that it is my job to provide that positive learning enviornment in which for them to grow, learn, and feel that they are special (because they are)!
In addition to learning, I also enjoy having fun with my students! We like to laugh and do a lot of "hands on" activities! Many times I will develop my curriculum around the interests of my classroom. For instance, one year I had a group who really seemed interested in learning about bats; so I quickly created a fun unit on bats! I want my students to know that their natural curiousities are a great avenue for learning and success.
Please feel free to email me at any time to firstname.lastname@example.org. Looking forward to getting to know your child this year!!!
