Hello Families,

Wow! This week flew by!

Our week has been devoted mainly to NECAP testing. I cannot begin to tell you how very proud I am of every single student. Each third grader did their very best on every section of every test. Thank you so much for helping getting students to bed on time, and making sure they were fueled up with healthy breakfasts and snacks!

Over the past few weeks, we have been focusing on Tall Tales. We have read Paul Bunyan, Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, John Henry, Davy Crockett, among others. There are four main characteristics of tall tales:
  • The details are exaggerated beyond belief
  • There is a lot of action
  • The hero is like an every day person, but has over-the-top abilities
  • There is a problem that is solved in a funny or unbelievable way.
If you have any favorite tall tales, be sure to share them with your child! Tall tales are an important part of our country's literature and history. Plus they are a ton of fun to read and explore!

In math, we are working on money. Our main goal is to make sure that we feel comfortable with counting money and making exchanges with money. Students love thinking of different coin combinations for money amounts. How many ways can you combine coins to make $0.37? $0.58?

Have a wonderful weekend. Let's hope the sun shines a bit :)

Sincerely,

-Heather
