We have been involved in 'The Get New Zealand Writing Project,' where we have been assigned a buddy class from Hastings Intermediate. There are over 3000 classes involved in this project and each student has been using figurative language to describe themselves when writing their post card. When all the postcards are put together it makes a poster. We have also put together another poster that shares further information about the things that are important to our class.
These photos show the finished shared poster, as well as the postcards all put together. We are now waiting for our parcels from our buddy classes to arrive.
Tomorrow we are carrying out an activity called 'The Block'. This focusses on looking at ways we can impact the community we are in (hopefully positively). Students will be put into communities, where they will need to work well together if they are to be a success. For this day they need to bring food for a shared picnic, PE gear, togs, towel, sunblock, sunhat, and anything to help build their communities shelter.
It was great to meet people last night. If you weren't able to make it, please feel welcome to pop in sometime to meet me. There will be goal setting conferences coming up in 3 weeks time, where we will look at the next steps for your child.
Keep a record of the reading you are doing at home (Expectation 20-30 minutes, 3 times a week). Have a parent / caregiver sign off that you are doing this in your agenda book or ePortfolio. The sheet can be found here.
In your ePortfolio you need to capture the books you read (in your literacy page). This could be in the following format:
Book Snap (take a photo of your book and annotate with notes showing what interests you)
