Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School Counseling Services

Counseling offerings during Distance Learning: The counseling department is still available to support students during distance learning! We are offering lunch clubs every day and social emotional and identity groups in the afternoons, open to all students, as a place to connect. If a student would like to check in or needs additional support, please email us! We are happy to help and can provide referrals to outside resources and therapists, as well.

King Middle School has a comprehensive counseling program available to all students and families. Our three grade level counselors are available to meet with students and families regarding academic, social and emotional concerns. Each counselor remains with their class for the three years at King. Additionally, they can serve as a liaison for ongoing academic or mental health services.

The mission of King Middle School's school counseling program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social/emotional development of all students. School counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents or guardians, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure all students at King Middle School have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

For students who request ongoing counseling, we have school counseling interns available to meet individually and in groups for long term counseling with students.

Some issues that students have sought support for in the past include academic achievement, peer issues, identity, divorce, loss, depression, and anxiety. Additionally, we have counselors and interns from Berkeley Mental Health available to provide crisis and long term counseling to students and families with Medi-Cal eligibility.

Please contact the counselor for your grade level for more information on any of our services.
