A message from Cassie Birtwistle, Chair of Governors

As governors we are extremely proud of Belmont Infant School and the diverse, supportive and nurturing community that makes this school a wonderful place to start your child’s formal education.

We play an important role in setting the strategic direction of the school along with the Head Teacher and senior leadership team. Governors do not manage schools, this is the role of the head teacher and senior leadership team, but we do oversee the development of the school, to provide a high standard of education for all pupils. Governors set the aims and objectives for the school and set the policies and targets for achieving those aims and objectives. They monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making and act as a source of challenge and support to the headteacher. As the accountable body for the school, the governing body has three key functions:

*  Oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

*  Hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils

*  Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

The Governors have a variety of skills and backgrounds that provide the school with a wide range of expertise and support. We are a mixture of parents, school staff, co-opted governors and local authority representatives. The full Governing Body meets at least once every term. We also have committees, working groups or nominated lead governors to look at particular areas. Our current committees are Finance, Buildings & Personnel (F&P), Teaching & Learning (T&L) and Pupils & Community (P&C) and we have link governors for Special Educational Needs (SEN), Safeguarding, Health & Relationships, STEM, English,  Health & Safety and Black and Minority Ethnic Achievement (BAME).

As a governing body we are committed to providing the best education and school experience for every child at Belmont Infant School.

We welcome all parents and carers to attend our Governing Body meetings, dates are in the newsletter.  You can also contact us via the school office if you have any concerns or queries.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
