Hello! My name is Ms. Pelrine and I teach Design Engineering for grades five and six. Design Engineering explores pre-engineering topics and students participate in many types of hands on activities. Chrome books will also be used to access web based sites for fun interactive activities; see more information on grade level tabs.
I did my undergraduate studies at Fitchburg State College in Education and Special Education. At Keene State College I received my certification in Industrial Arts/Technology Education and completed my Maters Degree in Education.

Design Engineering - Welcome Slide Show
Course Overview
This is one of the seven Integrated Arts classes that your student will have this year; each rotation is approximately 25 days and meets every day.
RTL - Ready to Learn
Students will need a pencil and basic supplies: ruler, scissors, markers etc.
Students will also need their fully charged school assigned chrome book every day for class and ear buds.
Class Description
Design Engineering is an exploratory class for learning about pre-engineering skills; often the activities are referred to as STEM or STEAM activities. We follow the Design Engineering Process for our projects.
Students will design and build small prototypes of design challenges to try out their ideas and demonstrate their abilities. Problem solving activities and fun challenges are also integrated into the Design Engineering program with a focus on teamwork to find solutions.
In addition coding activities will be included! Students will have opportunities to pick from various coding activities in “Hour of CODE”. We will also learn how to use codes to program robots.
The Google Suite will be our primary mode of delivering instructions for activities: documents, drawings, slide show presentations, forms, jam board etc. Also included will be links using Brain Pop, Flip Grid, Screencastify, Edpuzzles, Quizziz, Hour of Code and more!
Students will use their Chrome Books daily to access instructions, information, and learning activities. Chrome books will also be used to document work and for assessment purposes.
Class Expectations
Students will need to be prepared for class each day with pencil, chrome books fully charged, ear buds and basic supplies (as needed).
Students will be expected to log in to Google Classroom for the daily assignments, instructions, and announcements.
Grading information
Completed work will be “turned in” on Google Classroom or other platforms as identified in the assignments. Grade information will be posted in Power School.
Students will receive 3 grades: achievement, effort, and conduct.
