BISD School Nurse

ABUSE HOTLINE

The law requires any person who believes
that a child, a person 65 years or older,
or an adult with disabilities is being abused,
neglected, or exploited to report the
circumstances to the Texas Abuse Hotline.

  • The State of Texas requires that every child receive certain vaccinations before entry into public school.  PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE THE CHILD STARTS SCHOOL.  If your child does not have adequate immunizations, he/she may have to miss school until they are completed.  We will be happy to go over the requirements with you.
  • All medicine for Pre-K- 5th grade must be brought to the nurse by the parent.  Students on the Elementary campus are not allowed to bring any medication to school.
  • If you would like to bring in over-the-counter medications like Tylenol, Motrin, cough syrup, etc, we will store them for you during the school year with your child's name to be used as needed.  We cannot accept any medication that is not in original container.  A request for medication form will need to be filled out with instructions as to when it should be used.  The Nurse's office or school office's have these forms; or you can print it from the Resources & Information tab.   We cannot give any medications without a signed form!  This form will need to be re-done every year.
  • If you child is on a prescription medicine, the form will need to be signed by the prescribing doctor for us to give it at school.  If you provide us with your doctor's fax number and telephone number, we will request it for you.  However, if this is a medicine that needs to start the first day of school, you must have everything signed and ready to go beforehand, or we will not be able to give it!  Medication must be received in the container in which it was dispensed by the physician or pharmacist.  It must have proper identification, dosage, and time interval marked.  All medications will be kept in a locked cabinet in the nurse's office.
  • If you child is taking a controlled drug (such as Adderall) at school, you must bring this medication in person.  Students are not allowed to carry/keep these medications on them.  This is for all campuses (High School, Jr. High, and Elementary)
  • Don't forget that all medicines need to be picked up by the end of the year or they will be thrown away.
  • The nurse is at school from 7:45 am to 3:30 pm each day.  Please know you are welcome to call us or stop by at any time.
