Things YOU can be doing as a Senior




Keep Academics a Priority:  

  • Study hard and keep good grades, more and more colleges are asking for a final transcript

  • Take rigorous classes: many colleges are looking that you took rigorous classes your Senior Year

Watch Deadlines:

*  most Utah college applications have either the Dec 1 or Feb 1 deadline

*  honors and leadership program applications

* scholarship deadlines

    

Apply to Colleges:

  • Decide which colleges to apply to.  Apply to more than 1.

  • Open Doors and Keep options open.  Apply to several, you don’t need to commit until Spring!

  • Come to College Day on October 9, choose 3 college presentations, meet the reps and ask questions.

  • Attend College Open Houses, go to their websites and add your name as a future student to get info

  • Meet with the College Reps that come to our school during lunch; don’t be afraid to ask questions.

  • Visit campuses!  Call ahead for appointment with Advisor in the Department that interests you.

  • Keep an Open Mind--find the RIGHT fit for YOU!

Free Application for Federal Student Aid  www.fafsa.ed.gov


ACT Test:

  • Study and take September and/or October ACT Tests to meet the early deadlines

  • Remember the higher the ACT score and better your grades--the better the scholarship!




Scholarships:

  • APPLY, APPLY, APPLY- the more you apply for, the greater your chance

  • Over 90% of scholarships are for Seniors!  NOW is the TIME

  • The majority of scholarships come from colleges be sure to consider all areas

  • Academic, Leadership, Athletic, Departmental, Multi-Cultural, Need Based-FAFSA


Brag List:

  • Use Brag List when applying for colleges and scholarships

  • Show all the things you have been involved with, how well rounded you are

  • As a Senior be involved, step up as Club President, Team Captain, etc.


Take a deep breath, stay focused, keep Senioritis at bay, and do all you can to make your Senior Year the best it can be in preparing you for your future College and Career!
