EERI-BC 2017 Membership Renewals

With the new year it's time to renew your EERI-BC membership.

As the only Canadian chapter of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, EERI-BC independently manages its own membership subscriptions. If you are a member of EERI and have already renewed your membership for 2017, you still need to complete this process to remain a member of the British Columbia chapter.

2017 renewals should be completed by February 1stThank you for your ongoing support!

Earthquake Risk Reduction Planning in Western Canada—call for volunteers

EERI-BC is pleased to announce the recent award of a Policy Development Contribution Program grant from Public Safety Canada to pursue a project on Earthquake Risk Reduction Planning in Western Canada

The goal of this project is to increase capacities of planners and emergency managers to take actions in advance of an earthquake disaster in order to:

  • Reduce systemic vulnerabilities,
  • Minimize future losses, and
  • Help build the resilience of communities exposed to known seismic hazards in British Columbia.

The supporting core objectives are aligned with the Emergency Management Act and priorities 1 and 2 of the International Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Seismic Microzonation Mapping in Metro Vancouver

EERI-BC supports the initiative of NRCAN, EMBC, Western University, UBC and others to develop comprehensive seismic microzonation mapping for Metro Vancouver. Such mapping is critical to inform provincial risk decision makers in mitigating and reducing earthquake risk.

At this stage the proponents are seeking funding to advance the project. EERI-BC is supporting this work by covering some of the expenses incurred by the volunteer grant writers.
