Salvete discipuli et parentes! Welcome to Latin!
I am excited to begin another year at North Bay Haven and I am looking forward to seeing returning faces and meeting new ones alike!

There are many reasons why we should study the Classics. Learning Latin helps develop our understanding of our own English language and primes us to learn other languages, primarily the Romance languages. In addition, learning about the culture and traditions of ancient Greece and Rome help us understand some of our own American customs and the customs of other countries around the world, as well as giving insight into who the Romans were as a people. Most importantly, learning Latin sharpens our mental abilities by stimulating critical and analytical thinking and problem solving. I am glad you have decided to embark on this journey with me and I hope you will experience all the benefits that studying the Classics has to offer you.

Latin can be a challenging language to learn, but it can also be a lot of fun. It is my hope that we will work through the challenges together and become stronger and better because of them. One of the challenges of learning Latin lies in the fact that it is structured very differently from English. Also, Latin is not a spoken language, which means that we will be focusing on how to read and translate Latin sentences, paragraphs, and stories rather than the elements of typical conversation. Nevertheless, being able to read stories and documents in their original language is exciting and extremely rewarding!

I am really looking forward to this coming year and learning and growing along with you!
