Here are some steps to start Geometry course off strong!

1)ALL STUDENTS NEED THEIR OWN TI30XA CALCULATOR.  No other calculator may be used.  Please DO NOT purchase the "multiview" version.

2)NOTEBOOK PAPER,GRAPH PAPER, & TOOLS FOR CLASS SHOULD BE STORED IN YOUR GEOMETRY NOTEBOOK FOR DAILY USE.  A ZIPPER POUCH WITH RINGS WORKS BEST FOR STORING THESE ITEMS IN YOUR GEOMETRY NOTEBOOK.
BRING YOUR OWN SUPPLIES!  {pencils only!}

3)A LIMITED NUMBER OF CIRCLE MASTER COMPASSES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IN CLASS FOR $3 AFTER THE START OF SCHOOL. THEY CAN ALSO BE FOUND ONLINE AT A VARIETY OF SITES INCLUDING AMAZON AND EAI EDUCATION. YOU WILL NEED YOUR COMPASS FOR USE IN CLASS AND AT HOME.  You MUST have a compass, but it DOES NOT have to be a Circle Master.  We suggest the Circle Master because it is dependable, sturdy, and affordable.

4)FOR A FULL LIST OF SUPPLIES, NOTEBOOK REQUIREMENTS, & GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT MY CLASS(INFORMAL GEO, GEO, AND HONORS GEO) PLEASE GO TO DOCS/FORMS AND VIEW OR DOWNLOAD THE FOLLOWING 3 DOCUMENTS:

For Parents

1.   Please make certain your email address in FOCUS is current.  You should receive class emails/grade updates from me periodically at this email address.
2.  Check grades in FOCUS regularly.  The biggest changes in current averages will occur after SUMMATIVE assessments, not FORMATIVE assessments.  See TEST/QUIZ Record or Lesson Plans for upcoming test/quiz dates.
3.  Explore my website and CANVAS for important information about your child's class, how they will be graded, and available resources.
4.  When looking over grades in FOCUS please remember classwork/homework is a formative grade based on completion, not necessarily quality of work.  It is the students responsibility to check their homework answers at the appropriate time and ask questions about what they missed when we go over the assignment in class.  To receive full credit for an assignment the student must try every problem and show work.
5. Notebooks & supplies will be checked August 20 for Honors Geometry and August 21 for Informal Geometry.  See Grading Practices & Class Requirements for guidelines.  Students will be given a notebook rubric and a supply rubric in class. For additional copies of the rubrics see Documents & Forms.  Please DO NOT wait until your notebook check due date to have your supplies and notebook ready...we begin working with these tools immediately.

                                                                                                   For Parents & Students
                                                                                  TIPS FOR SUCCESS

1.  Students should keep a neat notebook and parents should check to see that assignments are being completed.  Lesson plans for your course may be viewed by visiting "AT A GLANCE....LESSON PLANS" under the appropriate class at left.  Current assignment sheets for each course may be viewed by visiting "ASSIGNMENTS" under the appropriate class.  Current test and quiz dates can be viewed by visiting "TEST/QUIZ RECORD" under the appropriate class.  Notebook guidelines can be found under GRADING PRACTICES AND CLASS REQUIREMENTS or in the NOTEBOOK RUBRIC under docs/forms.

2. Ipads will be used for note taking during class.  PDF files of smart board notes for each chapter will be posted  under each chapter module in CANVAS.  These are templates that the student fills in as we move through the lesson.  Download the notes to your IPAD or Chromebook(or print them out at home) to use in class each day.

 3. Use the online text book or your hardcopy of the textbook or your textbook app on your IPAD/Chromebook to pre read sections to be covered in class.  These are rich resources complete with tutorials, examples,  and extra practice.  Online textbook and ipad app access codes will be given the first day of class .  Once downloaded the textbook app does not require internet access.  There is also a pdf of the textbook that can be downloaded if you have trouble getting the textbook app to work.  JUST ASK :)

4.  Be attentive, alert, and engaged during instructional time.  Use class time wisely and address any questions or concerns about the material.  Each class we strive to address homework questions, cover new material, and start assignments for that day.

  5.  Be persistent when you find a topic difficult to understand.  Use online resources, study with a group, seek out a tutor.  Do not procrastinate about seeking out help when you don't understand a topic.    If you are having trouble finding a tutor, ask me about our Mu Alpha Theta Tutoring Lab(open Sept through April).

  6. Each term culminates with a  Cumulative Test (a term is 4 1/2  weeks).  This test covers everything from the current term and can be used to replace your lowest test grade AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A FORMATIVE GRADE(homework & quizzes) OF 80% OR HIGHER.

7. Vocabulary is extremely important to your success. Vocabulary flashcard files are available in the Vocabulary module in canvas and under Docs & Forms on my website. If printed front and back they make a card that can be flipped and used for NIGHTLY study.
