Room 269

Welcome to 1st Grade!!! My name is Cassie Unruh and I am your child's first grade teacher. I am so excited to have your child in my class this year! We will be doing lots of learning and growing this year!

A little bit about me, this is my 9th year teaching 1st grade at Maple Grove. I have my Bachelor's in Education from Washington State University. Go Cougs! I have also finished my Professional Certification from Seattle Pacific University. As well, I am always seeking out new opportunities for learning to enhance my teaching and to keep up on the latest teaching techniques.

I love spending time with my family. I have one son who is 3 and always keeping me on my toes. We love to watch Sunday football together, especially the Seahawks! I also enjoy, cooking, reading, and browsing through Pinterest.

First grade is a very exciting time. Your child will be learning a lot of foundational skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. We put a huge emphasis on reading this year, and gaining the skills needed to be readers in this day and age. We also will be working a lot on building math skills for the future. Every child works at his or her own pace, and I will work to differentiate my instruction to fit the best needs of each individual child.

Something that is unique to first grade here at Maple Grove, is that we all come together and do a lot of learning together as an entire first grade. We call this time "community". We find it very valuable for our students to get together with all their peers, not just the ones in their classrooms.

I look forward to growing and learning so much with your child this year! Thank you for letting me have your child in my class!
