about your Counselor

Richard Jones

Maple Grove School (K-8)

Welcome Note

I believe that there is no job as important or that makes more of an impact on our society than being an educator. It is a passion of mine and has been for over 30 years. I have been at the high school level for many of those years and now I find myself at Maple Grove working with kindergarten through eighth grade students. I am quite aware of the issues that prevent our students from not completing school to the point of getting a diploma. Working with younger students gives me the ability to be preventive and help those students get the problem solving skills that they need to be successful. We are a team (principals, teachers, staff, counselors, parents and students) and must be for our students to be successful. As a parent or guardian please let us know if there are any life changing events that might impact the learning of our students. Let us know if your student just got up on the wrong side of the bed, so to speak. WE can help and must work together.

I will be posting information from time to time on this site so please check it occasionally. As always, if you have any questions please call me (360-885-6700) or email me at jones.richard@battlegroundps.org (email would be preferred).

Classes Taught

STEPS-A: a program that helps middle schooled aged students deal with stress and make better decisions. It covers the topics of distress tolerance, interpersonal efficiency, emotional regulation and mindfulness. It gives students life-long skills. It is taught to 6th, 7th and 8th graders during advisory.

Kelso's Choices: a decision making and social program for k-5 grades.

I am a team leader for our district's School Mobilization Assistance Response Team (SMART). I respond to situations that create trauma for schools in and outside of our district.

I oversee the "Backpack" program that receives food from the SHARE Program to help families at Maple Grove. If you think this program can help your family with receiving extra food please give me a call at 885-6700.

InvestED Ambassador: I oversee a seamless program that helps our middle school aged students at Maple Grove get the necessary supplies and assistance that they need to part-take in the activities of our school. The InvestED Foundation makes sure that finances will not be a barrier to having our students participate in our school's academic activities. Please call me at 885-6700 if you think this program can assist your student.

I am the Maple Grove Homeless Liaison. If you and your family need help please give me a call (885-6700). There are many opportunities for your students and confidentiality will be our utmost concern.
