Benchmarks for Lettering in Cross Country

In order to earn a letter in Cross Country, you must achieve or complete four of the following benchmarks listed below.

1. Attend all official practices/meetings/races unless you have an excused absence due to a legitimate appointment. ( A signed document from a coach, doctor, teacher, or parent is required in advance.)

2. You must attend/compete in all official Cross Country meets.  If you are unable to run due to an injury, then you are expected to come and support your team.

3. You have met the time standard three times during the season.  (Boys - 18:50,  Girls - 23:55) Time standards are subject to change based on the season roster.

4. You have shown improvement in your race times from the beginning of the season.

5. You have logged over 300 miles of running during the official season. (You must keep a log/record book to show proof of mileage.)

6. You have placed in the top 10 during an invitational meet.

  • You must be passing all your classes during the season to participate in Cross Country.  Passing means that you must be getting a 60% or higher.

  • Coaches have the right to make the final decision if an athlete will receive a letter at the end of the season.   (Attitude, Sportsmanship, and Leadership play an important role in our decision-making process.)
